My earliest memory of Mizuno Golf is the 1996 Masters, where Sir Nick Faldo erased a 6-shot deficit to take the green jacket from Greg Norman in one of the greatest final-round comebacks of all time. Faldo walking the fairways alongside caddie Fanny Sunesson with the bright blue and white Mizuno golf bag is an image I will never forget.

Faldo had Mizuno irons in the bag that day and for all three of his Open Championship victories. His stellar iron play spearheaded a career that included six total major championship wins and a long reign at world number one. In 2009, he was knighted by the late Queen Elizabeth II of England.

I will also always remember the Masters Tournament the following year in 1997, where Tiger Woods used Mizuno MP irons to capture his first major championship. After shooting 40 on his first 9 holes of the tournament, he shot 30 on the back 9, which set the stage for the rest of the tournament.

In the end, Woods won by an astounding 12 shots, a record that stands today as the largest margin of victory in Masters Tournament history.

These two legendary performances sparked my interest in golf, and I have been hooked ever since. As a college golfer, I shot a front-9 40 and back-9 30 in the same round, and while it wasn’t The Masters, the feeling I had walking off the course that day is one I want others to feel.

Most of my life’s work has included helping people find the right golf equipment to lower their scores and improve their game. After all, to shoot your best scores, you must have the right equipment for your swing. In this article, I review the best golf clubs available from the iconic manufacturer, Mizuno.

1. Mizuno JPX923 Tour Irons

Mizuno is most widely known for its tour quality irons. The JPX923 Tour irons are what top players are looking for in terms of workability, accuracy, and aesthetics.

For a purist who can move the ball both ways, the JPX923 Tour irons offer precise accuracy and control at impact. When you make a great swing and catch the center of the club face, you can feel the club compress the ball, giving you the ability to begin controlling the amount of spin and movement after just a few reps.

These irons produce a high and penetrating ball flight when struck on center and can measure up to any tour level product. I found my ball speeds were fast and consistent, and I was able to fly shots in the wind with control and precision.

The JPX9243 Tour Irons are forged in Hiroshima, Japan as one piece. For added feel, Mizuno added a copper underlay, making them one of the smoothest irons at impact.

Like most tour-ready irons, these are not the most forgiving irons available. For a higher handicap player, there are more forgiving Mizuno options that would better suit their swing flaws.

If you’re a player with a high swing speed, the JPX923 Irons interact well with the turf and give you the ability to take solid square divots. Any experienced player can utilize these irons to take their game to the next level, add shot shapes to the bag, and lower scores.

2. Mizuno M.Craft VI Putter

Keeping a reliable putter in your bag is the best way to score consistently. A three putt or a few missed 5 footers throughout the round can be the difference in improving your scores versus staying stagnant.

The shape and weight combination of the M.Craft VI Putter from Mizuno makes it easy to keep your putting arc on plane and settle in for those testy short putts you will face throughout the round. It comes with an adjustable weight kit that allows you to tailor the club to the putting conditions for that day, which is increasingly helpful on exceptionally fast or painfully slow putting surfaces.

Setting up this one reminded me of the Titleist Scotty Cameron Phantom X5 putter, which has a similar shaped clubhead. Both are steady throughout the stroke and aid players of all handicaps.

Whether you prefer a blade or a mallet shaped putter, this club will make an easy transition to your bag due to its soft feel across the face. The M.Craft VI putter is one of the softest feeling putters I’ve tested, and the level of forgiveness on poorly struck putts is high.

If you like the bright blue of the Mizuno logo, all Mizuno putters are offered in this shade. For those who prefer something more traditional, there are also black and white options available.

For equal dependability on the greens from a long distance and inside 5 feet, the Mizuno M.Craft VI Putter is one of the best available for all players.

3. Mizuno ST-Z 230 Driver

Keeping the ball in play off the tee is crucial to lowering your scores. The Mizuno ST-Z 230 Driver comes with a giant sweet spot, extra forgiveness, and high launch that will allow you to swing free and think less about ball contact and more about speed.

The new titanium face of the latest ST-Z 230 is even thinner than before, allowing for less stress on the clubface. I found this driver to be extremely accurate across the face, even on shots that were struck on the toe or heel.

It is important to be able to adjust your driver settings to your specific swing tendencies, and this driver has a Quick Switch Hosel that allows for four different adjustable settings to meet your needs. For more advanced players, this can be used to dial in your desired shot shape of the day. For beginners, this should be adjusted to combat swing flaws.

While some drivers have draw bias built in to combat the common slice ball flight, the Mizuno ST-Z 230 is a top line driver that has straight flight bias to promote a penetrating straight shot that will increase ball speed and find the fairway. This driver is Mizuno’s best driver option available.

4. Mizuno T24 Soft White Satin Wedge

The Mizuno T24 Soft White Satin Wedge is an effective scoring club that provides good feel around the greens and pinpoint consistency from inside 100 yards. For all skill levels, this wedge is a difference-maker that will show up on the scorecard.

What I love most about this Mizuno product is its customizability. In addition to different lofts, there are bounce-specific sole grinds that you must choose from when selecting a wedge. There are five in total that include the S, D, C, V, and X Types.

The S-Type provides high bounce and limited relief for full shots, while the D-Type provides mid-level bounce.

The C-Type is equipped with mid to high level bounce and an extra layer of versatility for all types of players.

The V-Type is a high bounce wedge with determined relief for versatility on different types of shots, and the X-Type is a low bounce wedge with the most adaptability for lower handicap players.

Grooves on the Mizuno T24 Soft White Satin Wedge are designed to reduce moisture on the face and promote consistent, reliable ball flight. Its interaction with the turf is buttery and spin is controllable for those with high swing speeds. This wedge is a solid addition to any bag that will give you the best chance to score from greenside.

5. Mizuno ST-Z 230 Hybrid

For the gap between your irons and fairway woods, the Mizuno ST-Z 230 Hybrid provides a forgiving, high launching option that will hold the green and keep you in play. This is one of the straightest hybrids available that can assist players of varying skill levels and swing speeds.

I used the 3-hybrid version with a stiff shaft to cover the yardage between my 4-iron and 3-wood, which is most often used on my second shot into par 5s and long par 3s. Off the tee and from the rough, the Mizuno ST-Z 230 Hybrid was consistent and playable.

For adjustability, there is a Quick Switch Hosel that can be moved to four different settings depending on your desired ball flight for the day. I was able to lock in my baby draw with ease, and its high launch landed soft on the greens even with hook spin.

In rounding out your bag, it is important to make sure that you have a club for every yardage. The Mizuno ST-Z 230 Hybrids are here to fill those gaps and prepare you for those odd yardages faced throughout the round.
