The Curated Take

4.8/5

The Look Pivot 15 GW Ski Bindings are reliable and durable due to their nearly all-metal construction. Ideal for big mountain and park skiing, they offer a consistent, smooth release in all directions, enhancing safety, particularly for those prone to rotational leg injuries. However, their minimal adjustability, heavier weight due to robust build, and challenges in deeper snow conditions might only suit some. The Pivot 15 bindings are great for advanced skiers prioritizing durability, consistent release, and strong performance in varied conditions.

Expert Reviews of the Look Pivot 15 GW Ski Bindings

Maximilian DeRoest The Look Pivot 15 GW Ski Binding is a high-performance piece of ski equipment that has garnered a strong reputation in the skiing community. As an expert in the ski community, I had the opportunity to test and purchase these bindings. Here's my review of the Look Pivot 15: The Look Pivot 15 bindings are exceptionally well-built. The metal construction feels robust and capable of withstanding the rigors of aggressive skiing. The high-quality materials used in its construction inspire confidence in its durability and longevity. The Pivot 15 is designed for advanced and expert skiers who want maximum power transmission to their skis. The pivot heel and toe pieces provide a consistent and reliable connection between the boot and the ski, which is crucial for advanced skiers who demand precision in their skiing. This binding excels in all conditions. However, the Look Pivot 15 is intended for big mountain/park skiers who have a higher likelihood of ejecting out of their bindings. Safety is paramount, and the Pivot 15 doesn't disappoint. The feeling of ejecting out of this binding is smooth and non-violent. The pivoting heel piece is to thank for this. Nearly every professional freeskier skis this binding due to the lower risk of injury in the event of an ejection. In conclusion, the Look Pivot 15 ski binding is a top-tier binding tailored for advanced skiers, prioritizing performance, reliability, and safety.
Chris Waterbury The Look Pivot 15 is the ideal binding for an aggressive expert-level skier. The full metal construction allows for years of abuse while staying in excellent working order. Look Pivots are unique in how the heel releases in a wide range of directions. Most bindings have a stationary heel, but the Pivot 15 can rotate 360°. This feature makes the binding safer for those concerned with knee or other rotational leg injuries.
Colin Grey I was really excited when the Pivot 15 came out because it filled a gap for me between the Pivot 18 and the Pivot 14. The Pivot 18 is a phenomenal binding because it is all metal and has a toe piece that is far superior to the Pivot 14, in my opinion. For a smaller person like me, who uses a DIN of 10, then the Pivot 18 may not be the right binding. The DIN spring is ideally set to be in the middle range of the bindings, so a DIN of 10 on the Pivot 18 is barely compressing the spring. On the Pivot 15, however, 10 DIN is in that sweet spot. This binding is the most reliable that I have ever used, and I know that it is absolutely bomb-proof. This does come at the cost of being one of the heavier bindings out there, but I do not see this as a downside. Another thing I love about these bindings is their versatility. The Pivot 15 is compatible with the game-changing CAST touring system, which is a great option for those who want robust bindings for back and sidecountry skiing.

Durability

5/5
Maximilian DeRoest gave 5 of 5 stars. Undoubtedly, the Look Pivots are some of the most durable bindings on the market. The all-metal construction means these bindings will last for many ski seasons. This added durability also gives me a boost of confidence when skiing (almost to a fault).
Chris Waterbury gave 5 of 5 stars. The Look Pivot 15 is a full metal binding, meaning it is basically indestructible. I have friends who have skied the same pair of Pivot 15s for over five years and have no complaints about them. These bindings are an investment but will last a very long time and hold up to any abuse they are put through.
Colin Grey gave 5 of 5 stars. Previously, only the Pivot 18s were made with all-metal construction, but Look brought that to the Pivot 15s as well to make what I consider to be the perfect binding. These bindings can take almost any abuse and not break.

Release Reliability

5/5
Maximilian DeRoest gave 5 of 5 stars. As someone who often bites off more than I can chew when it comes to my skiing ability, I need a binding that releases consistently and doesn't compromise on safety. The Look Pivot has always released in situations when it should and kept my skis on my feet when an ejection wasn't necessary.
Chris Waterbury gave 5 of 5 stars. The release of these bindings occurs just when I need it most. They will generally only release if I overextend the range of the binding. Bindings with a higher DIN can create poor power transmission, but I don't find that an issue with the Look Pivot 15.
Colin Grey gave 5 of 5 stars. These bindings have a pivoting toe and heel piece that function flawlessly in my experience. The Pivot 15s have never released unexpectedly, but they have released every time I have crashed hard enough to want them to pop off. They are easy to get in and out of at the beginning and end of a ski session.

Versatility

4/5
Maximilian DeRoest gave 2 of 5 stars. The Look Pivots are a phenomenal binding when it comes to release, consistency, and durability. However, their design limits the amount of possible adjustability, meaning that once they're mounted, there isn't much room for change. These bindings remain very versatile for different terrains.
Chris Waterbury gave 4 of 5 stars. The Look Pivot 15 is one of the most versatile bindings available. The biggest demographic is generally park and freeride skiers. Also, considering its trusted release and rotation built within the heel, folks with knee/hip issues should look into this binding.
Colin Grey gave 5 of 5 stars. What makes these bindings even more perfect is the ability to make them touring capable with the CAST touring system. This add-on makes the toe piece of the bindings quick-release removable so that it can be swapped with a tech toe piece. This makes the Pivot 15s a great touring binding for back and sidecountry skiing with a bombproof binding.

Power Transfer

5/5
Maximilian DeRoest gave 4 of 5 stars. The Look Pivot 15 binding truly excels in terms of performance. It provides a strong and precise connection between the skier and the ski, allowing for excellent power transmission and control. The design of these bindings also provides a very "locked-in" feel. Whether someone is carving down groomed runs or tackling challenging off-piste terrain, these bindings offer excellent stability and response.
Chris Waterbury gave 5 of 5 stars. The Look Pivot 15 allows a skier's boot to sit very close to the surface of the ski. This allows for excellent power transmission and almost no loss of power overall. The durability and metal frame create a stiff ride that directly puts power and feel where it is needed most.
Colin Grey gave 5 of 5 stars. These bindings have no noticeable flex that I can feel while skiing. The anti-friction plates on the bindings are interchangeable rather than adjustable so there is no risk of the AFD coming out of adjustment. This keeps the boots in good contact with the binding for great power transfer.

FAQs

What do you love about this product?

Maximilian DeRoest The ejection is very consistent and smooth. The binding is also unique in that it has a heel release and toe release.
Chris Waterbury Look Pivot bindings are a staple in the freeride skiing community. These bindings are tested and proven to hold up to the heaviest abuse. The Pivot 15 is a full metal binding that mixes durability, safety, and consistency. These bindings look great but, more importantly, perform well and keep the strongest of skiers safe.
Colin Grey I love how bombproof and reliable these bindings are. The all-metal construction makes these bindings almost impossible to break. The pivoting toe and heel pieces give this binding a reliable release, and they won't release when they shouldn't.

What was your favorite moment with this gear?

Maximilian DeRoest While night skiing, I hit a 10-foot drop without knowing what the landing looked like and sent it straight into a bush. Both skis ejected off my feet, and I took quite the fall. My biggest takeaway from the crash was I didn't even feel the skis come off my feet. The release was so smooth, even with the violent crash. It is unlike any binding I've ever skied.
Colin Grey The first time I was able to tour with these bindings after mounting them with the CAST touring system was amazing. Being able to tour with a binding this solid is really nice.

Why did you choose this product?

Maximilian DeRoest I chose this binding because it was designed for skiers who push their gear to the limit and need consistency when it matters most. I am also unwilling to compromise on safety; these are some of the safest bindings on the market.
Chris Waterbury I have always skied and been a fan of Look Pivot bindings. Up to this point, I had only used the 14 DIN version because I was hesitant about the added weight of the 15. I decided to give it a shot due to its durability and the visuals. I could not be happier.
Colin Grey I had previously owned a pair of the Pivot 18s and wanted a version of those that had a lower DIN. With the 18s I barely compressed the DIN spring, but with the 15s I was right in the middle of the DIN range, which is where the bindings function the best.

What is the value for the money versus other options?

Maximilian DeRoest The Look Pivot 15 bindings come at a premium price. However, skiers get more than they pay for. These bindings will last for many seasons without needing maintenance or repair. There are no other bindings on the market with a pivoting heel piece for anywhere near this price.
Colin Grey These are not cheap bindings, but they are worth every penny for a durable, reliable binding. These are the best money can buy, in my opinion.
