Brand Claims
What does 4FRNT claim about this ski? 4FRNT claims this is that frontside groomer burning, jammin’ ski. It has a 91 mm waist which is super quick edge to edge.
Overall Impressions
What is your overall impression of the ski? I was really happy with the amount of camber underfoot on the hard morning I was riding these skis. It has a maple core paired with a titanal laminate tip to tail on the ski. This provides a damp feeling for the ski.
Carving
How does the ski turn? As far as carving goes, with all the camber underfoot, it felt super lively once on edge and then pressing into it and then going over to the next edge. You get a lot of energy from this ski!
What about dampness? Any chatter in the skis? Again, it’s a super damp ski and there was no chatter at all at speeds on some hard packed groomers.
Freestyle
Could you speak about playfulness and pop? As far as flex, it is a damp ski and it’s pretty burly with the maple and titanal laminate layer.
Is it good for skiing switch? The 4FRNT MSP 91s do have a little bit of early rise in the tail. It's enough to ski switch on the groomers. But, I wouldn't be landing switch or taking them into the park and hitting jumps switch.
Freeride
How is it in powder? As far as powder goes, there is a little bit of early rise. However, I was testing the MSP 99 and the 91, and the 91 obviously wasn’t as good off trail and in powder.
What terrain is this ski good for? Those early morning corduroy laps when everything's firm and fast. I was confident laying them over on edge, and they were quick edge to edge.
What terrain should skiers avoid with it? The early rise in these allow it to hold its own in the off piste stuff, but it's just not where it shines. Also, if it's deep snow, there's just not enough early rise and waist width, so it's just going to struggle in that kind of terrain.
Recommendations
Who would you recommend these skis to? Any skier that spends a lot of time on the groomers. If you're a confident skier and you want to maybe take your skiing to the next level, the 4FRNT MSP 91s could be for you.
Who should avoid these skis, there are better options out there for them? Super new skiers or if you're still working on your parallel turns. Or, if you're an advanced skier and you're looking for a ski that has a better off trail performance characteristics, this just isn't going to be the ski for you. Maybe the MSP 99 from 4FRNT are the ones for you.
