The Curated Take
4.5/5
The Mizuno JPX923 Hot Metal Pro irons are ideal for golfers with handicaps between 5 and 25. They offer exceptional distance, great forgiveness, and a soft feel. These irons use "Faster Nickel Chromoly" metal for a thinner, faster face, contributing to significant distance gains. They are not the most workable, but their consistency in shot distances and direction is a major advantage. While they have a pretty thick top line and might feel clunky to some, their performance in terms of distance, forgiveness, and feel makes them a good choice for those seeking a balanced iron with impressive technical features.

Expert Reviews of the Custom
Ignacio Isern These irons are good for 5 to 25 hcp players. Players below a 5 handicap will generally prefer a smaller head, although the head is not clunky, so I think many lower-handicap players (5-10) would accept the head in exchange for the added forgiveness and distance. As a pro, I can honestly say I was comfortable looking down at the head. The offset is not too exaggerated, and the head shape is very nice. When hitting the clubs, I was immediately impressed with the distance. They use a "Faster Nickel Chromoly" metal, which allows them to make the face thinner for faster ball speeds, and it showed! I hit them 20 yards farther than my current set. Twenty yards is no joke, and this is why I think many lower-handicap players would be willing to sacrifice a bit of the aesthetics of a blade in exchange for distance, especially since the feel was also very soft and buttery. Shot distances and direction were very consistent because of the peripheral head weighting, which you don't have in blades. The only drawback for a very low handicap player that I could find is that you can work the ball better with Mizuno 221, 223, 225, and tour irons, but this would only apply to handicaps under 5. For most players (hcp 5 - 25), these clubs have distance, forgiveness, and feel all in one.

Review Ratings
Feel
5/5
Ignacio Isern gave 5 of 5 stars. I would describe the feel as different than you would get from a blade or something similar, like a forged iron, but I didn't dislike it. It definitely had more pop to it. It came off the face hot but with a satisfying sensation. I think the added forgiveness contributes to the feel, too, because you get that same feel more consistently so you get used to it and know what to expect. Having familiarity of the feel is a good thing.
Workability
4/5
Ignacio Isern gave 4 of 5 stars. I'm big on hitting different shots and love to work the ball every which way because it gives you more options and is simply fun. If you're good at working the ball you can still do it with these irons, but they are certainly not the most workable option even within the Mizuno line.
Distance
5/5
Ignacio Isern gave 5 of 5 stars. Anyone who is looking to gain a few yards should definitely consider these irons. For me it is one of the most attractive advantages that these irons offer. I gained 15-20 yards with respect to my current irons. The ball goes far consistently while maintaining good acuracy. Ten out of ten for distance!
Sound
4/5
Ignacio Isern gave 4 of 5 stars. The sound actually grew on me as I got more used to it. Sure, it's different than the blades I currently play, but it sounds solid. I have hit many clubs in the past that are designed for forgivess and distance, and these definitely sound better than most other sets I've tried within the same category.
FAQs
What do you love about this product?
Ignacio Isern Why are the JPX923 Hot Metal Pro irons are an all-around golf club? Mizuno has a number of different types of irons for different types of golfers. The JPX923 Hot Metal Pros are for golfers between 5 and 25 handicap basically because they are not the most forgiving or the most workable, but they have everything else. I found the distance to be one of the biggest advantages. Their forgiveness is very good, and so it their sound and feel. Also, accuracy is also quite good with thse irons. In my opinion these would work wonderfully well for most golfers. If you're below a 5 hcp or above a 25 hcp there are better options even within the Mizuno line.
What was your favorite moment with this gear?
Ignacio Isern The distance you get with these clubs is hard to pass up. As a professional I generally play with less forgiving and less powerful golf clubs than the JPX923 Hot Metal Pro irons, so it was quite a good feeling hitting my irons 15-20 yards farther. I'm not as young and fit as I used to be and when I was out on the course and hit a 200-yard 5 iron to 6 feet it was a whole different ball game. I could se myself changing to clubs like this just to get the additional distance.
Why did you choose this product?
Ignacio Isern These irons are about as forgiving an iron as a low-handicap player would want to play. I chose these irons because they're about as clunky an iron as I would ever want to go. So they still look and feel quite good, but you get rediculous distance and forgiveness. As an aging golf pro these are perfect to get back the lost distance over the years.
What is the value for the money versus other options?
Ignacio Isern For the quality you get with these irons the price is very reasonable. These irons aren't the cheapest top-quality irons in the market but they are also not the most expensive. I think their quality and how well balanced they are is definitely in the top five. The metals they use and attention to detail in their design, as well as the practicality and performance of these irons, never cease to impress me.
