The Curated Take

4.1/5

The Faction Prodigy 3 Skis are perfect for all-mountain freestyle skiers who enjoy a fun and playful ride. These skis excel in soft snow and offer great flotation and ease of turning. They are suitable for powder days as well as icy groomers. Their width and rocker design give them good flotation, and they carve easily despite being a softer ski. The Prodigy 3 is ideal for skiers looking for a versatile one-ski quiver that's playful yet capable of handling various terrains, although it may not be the best fit for those who prefer a more durable or high-speed ski.

Expert Reviews of the Faction Prodigy 3 Skis

max pilling This ski is for all-mountain skiers who like to slash, butter, pop, and trick their way around the mountain. This ski slashes and pivots with ease, making it incredibly easy to go from edge to slash. They are flexible enough to give you pop off of jumps while being stable enough to stomp the landing. These skis are wide enough to handle most powder days and narrow enough to use when it's low tide. In the few days I've used these skis I have had so much fun jumping my way around the mountain. These skis make the entire mountain a playground. They are perfect for any all-mountain shredder who is trying to style their way down the mountain.

Review Ratings

Turn Ease

5/5
max pilling gave 5 of 5 stars. These skis are an easy ski to ride. They don't need to always be aggressively on edge, either. They pivot, slash, carve, and maneuver around the mountain with ease. These skis are also great for skiers who want a ski that can be turned easily at lower speeds, which is possible because of their softer tip and tails.

Playfulness

5/5
max pilling gave 5 of 5 stars. These skis are much more playful than almost any other all-mountain wide ski. They are meant to butter, pop, and jump their way around the mountain. Its softer tip and tail allows slashes and surfing down the soft snow while easily turning and spinning on the groomers.

Durability

3/5
max pilling gave 3 of 5 stars. One of my biggest problems with Faction is while their skis are a blast, they are not the most durable. The topsheet will probably chip a little over a season of use, and it is not uncommon to see people snapping their Faction skis when sending really, really hard. Luckily Faction has a great warranty and customer service department, so that makes how much fun these skis are worth the risk of them not being as durable.

High Speed Stability

3/5
max pilling gave 3 of 5 stars. Because these skis are more playful and geared towards slashing and surfing down the mountain, they may wobble a little bit when charging down a groomer or plowing through crud. They are not the stiffest, and they will noodle out a little at top speed, but they are stiff enough to be stable at all but the fastest speeds.

Carving

4/5
max pilling gave 4 of 5 stars. These skis are good for being easy to ski and initiate carves on, and they outperform most skis that are 106 in width. The skis feel great to get on edge, but because they are a softer ski, it can be a little hard to really dig into those turns. Considering the type of ski they are, they do well on the groomers.

Flotation

4/5
max pilling gave 4 of 5 stars. At 106 in width and a rocker design, this thing floats very well. While on the deepest of days, you might want to bring out the Prodigy 4.0, the wider ski in this lineup, this 3.0 can handle deep powder days just fine on its own. The soft tips allows for slashing and staying above the snow, so it feels truly at home in soft snow.

Versatility

5/5
max pilling gave 5 of 5 stars. This ski can handle powder days and icy groomer days. It is truly an all-mountain machine. If you only had one ski, this ski would be a good choice. It is stiff enough to go on steeper terrain but playful and soft enough to have fun around the rest of the mountain.

FAQs

What do you love about this product?

max pilling These skis are great for having fun all around the ski hill. They excel in softer snow and are a breeze to slash and pivot. My experience with these skis was that they made me want to use the entire mountain as a playground and pop and carve my way down it. They had a surfy feel and were a blast to ski on — they made me want to jump and trick everything I saw.

What was your favorite moment with this gear?

max pilling The day after a storm when skiing these, we found a little zone that had a few rollers and cliffs, and using these skis, I hit a cliff, spun a roller, and then did a slash in the powder down below. These skis really made me want to surf the whole mountain and make the hill my playground.

Why did you choose this product?

max pilling The 3.0 prodigy comes in at a perfect width of 106. They are amazing for skiing all over the mountain. While I don't ski much park, I do like freestyle, and the Prodigy series is oriented towards freestyle skiers. These skis seemed like the natural pick for someone who wants to take freeski tricks to the whole mountain.

What is the value for the money versus other options?

max pilling These skis are good in value — while they are less durable than other, more expensive skis, you can still get a couple of seasons out of them. It also doesn't hurt that these are some of the most fun skis out there.
