My name's Leo. I'm a curated.com Ski Expert and today we're talking about the Rossignol Rally Bird 90s versus the Head Pure Joy. Both of these are great skis for beginners and intermediates, people who are looking to get out of rentals and into their own gear but want something that's not going to be too demanding. However, they're different, very different, and that comes down to shape and personality.

Rossignol Rallybird 90 Pro Skis + Xpress W 10 GW Bindings

Let's dive into it, starting with the Rossignol Rallybird 90, with 90 standing for how wide it is underfoot, 90mm underfoot. This ski is one that I really like to recommend to my skiers in the west, my people who are looking for a ski that can handle a little bit of soft snow and help their progression. It's great for getting into some moguls, maybe some trees, handling the powder day when you get it, but still being able to carve groomers up. The way it does that is thanks to not only the waist width but the rocker in both the tip and the tail, which curls up away from the snow and makes it really easy to pivot those turns around. But, you do end up lacking a little bit of stability on the groomers at the fastest of fast speeds and it is also going to be a little slower to turn and really get up on high carving edging, the way you can with a skinnier ski. So, it's great for that little bit more leaning off-piste progression and for skiers here in the West who are just going to have a lot of fun.

Head Pure Joy Skis + Joy 9 GW SLR Bindings

Coming over here, the Head Pure Joy, this is a great ski as well that is a bit more traditional. This is something you'd get out of the rental fleet. It's your classic beginner frontside carver ski that's going to help you develop your technique. The Joy line from Head has been an amazing set of skis for them. I'm really glad to see it carried on in these more beginner-oriented models because it maintains a lot of integrity and quality in a way that you don't often see from beginner skis. It's something that can last a lot of years for a very long time. It's perfect for my older customers who just want to go out there and have fun with the kids or the grandkids. It doesn't need to be crazy, it just needs to work and this ski has been great for that. In fact, we've already sold out of it even though it's only November of 2024.

Similarities and Differences

This is a good reminder that if you are looking for ski gear and you're also looking for the best deals, Labor Day is a great time to start wrapping your head around it because things start to move quickly when snow is on the ground.
