Expert Reviews of the TaylorMade Spider GT Red Single Bend Putter
Darnell Jones I learned how to putt with a blade putter and loved the feel it gave me regarding where I made contact with the ball. I switched to the TaylorMade FCG putter because of the similar feel to a blade putter with the forgiveness of a mallet. It delivered on that promise, so I decided to try the Spider GT.
The first thing I noticed was the weight. It is a heavy putter compared to the putters I have used before. After a few hours of testing, I started to get used to it and felt how it helped my stroke. Shortened takeaways and longer follow-throughs kept the ball on line and pace.
The feedback on center hits is another pleasing feature of this putter. I also am very happy with the looks and sound. The sound is very muted, not clicky or tinny sounding. I am sure this is partly about the ball being used; in this case, I am using a TP5X.
The TaylorMade Spider GT is a great-looking, great-sounding putter that is forgiving and consistent. It is adjustable for various playing conditions and comes in many colors and customizations.

Review Ratings
Alignment
4/5
Darnell Jones gave 4 of 5 stars. I understand that TaylorMade tried to keep the appearance of this putter clean and simple. More framing of the ball would be nice. That being said, the single line is longer than the notch on a blade-style putter and can be used effectively.
Grip
4/5
Darnell Jones gave 4 of 5 stars. The slight bend at the top of the grip fit nicely into the palm of my hand. The soft texture of the SuperStroke grip is comfortable and gives me great control. I have the single bend for my back and straight-through putting stroke, and I have not wanted anything different.
Balance
4/5
Darnell Jones gave 4 of 5 stars. I was not used to the weight of this putter, and it took a minute for me to get used to it. I can allow the putter to do the work, letting me focus on the line and speed. Even on longer putts, I don't feel as if I have to hit the ball. I can roll it on line.
Forgiveness
4/5
Darnell Jones gave 4 of 5 stars. When I first purchased this putter, I thought I had gotten a defective unit because everything went left. After a few hours with the putter (with video), I realized it was me, not the putter. Center heel or toe contact all produce about the same distance. The ball sounds great coming off the face, and the inserts produce a truly predictable path.
Feel
4/5
Darnell Jones gave 4 of 5 stars. This putter lets me know what I'm doing in my putting stroke. If I push it left or right, it will tell me why. That is key in refining my stroke. I love the roll that this putter produces, and the sound is very muted (unless I miss badly and miss the insert altogether).
