Expert Reviews of the Mizuno OMOI Type II Putter
Calvin Max Recently, this putter was brought to my attention, and my first thought was that I had seen Mizuno's putters before, and they weren’t for me. Upon seeing this one, though, it was readily apparent that in my life, I have encountered few better-looking putters than the Mizuno Omoi Type 2.
The styling is modern, perhaps bordering on the futuristic, but subtle in a way that makes it very easy to digest visually. The perpendicular, chunky branding is just plain cool. Although all the finishes are wonderful, I was immediately taken with the blue. It has a certain gemlike quality that makes it hard to pull my gaze from but also doesn't throw off any glare the way I had assumed it would, which makes for a very easy-sight picture even on the sunniest of days.
When I put it down at address it seems to find the correct alignment on its own, like a Tolkienian object that is both sentient and aware of its purpose to put the ball in the hole.

Review Ratings
Alignment
5/5
Calvin Max gave 5 of 5 stars. I’m a triple looker — I check lines, I check them again, and then I check a third time, maybe more. Not with this thing. I stand over a putt, and one glance is all I need. I suspect it’s the heavier-than-it-looks weight that allows for a little more freedom in the stroke to keep the face square and aligned.
Grip
5/5
Calvin Max gave 5 of 5 stars. As the larger, super-stroke-style grips have taken over the hearts and minds of golfers everywhere, it has become incredibly hard to find an old-school pistol grip. Not so with the good people at Mizuno — I was able to find pistol grips in every Omoi model.
Forgiveness
5/5
Calvin Max gave 5 of 5 stars. The honest truth about this is that my stroke does not necessarily line up with a blade putter, so my assessment of the forgiveness should be taken with a grain of salt. But I thought it was exceptional because it was tough to get the power wrong. The putter is weighted really well, and it falls naturally though the down stroke like a pendulum!
Feel
5/5
Calvin Max gave 5 of 5 stars. There are two elements to putter feel for me: The first is the obvious feel at impact, usually dictated by the weight, finish, and material. But there’s also the feeling of how it feels to hold it, take it out of the bag, and walk to the green. This putter feels fine enough while in use, but it feels really exceptional in all those extra curricular activities I mentioned as well.
Balance
5/5
Calvin Max gave 5 of 5 stars. It is easy to see that the design team at Mizuno put a lot of time and effort into the balance of this putter. It moves effortlessly through the stroke and the face-favoring blade is very, very stable through the impact zone. Like most any blade it leans toward the toe, but unlike most, its shaping curbs some of its less-accurate tendencies.
