The Curated Take

4.8/5

The Smith Quantum MIPS Helmet is an excellent choice for those seeking top-notch protection and comfort. It's especially suitable for individuals looking for the best possible head protection. The helmet features MIPS technology, providing protection from impacts in all directions, potentially preventing concussions. With a well-ventilated design, it remains dry even on wet days and offers customizable airflow through 22 vents. The BOA fit system and magnetic buckle make it easy to put on and adjust, even with gloves. While it may have minor issues with goggle compatibility and weight, it excels in providing durability, comfort, and protection.

Expert Reviews of the Smith Quantum MIPS Helmet

max pilling The Smith Quantum MIPS Helmet is great for people who want the best protection they can buy. The Quantum helmet has MIPS, which enables the helmet to protect wearers from impacts coming from all directions. I've hit my head a few times while wearing this helmet, and without it, I probably would have had concussions. The Aerocore design with 22 vents makes it so one won't get hot and works well with Smith goggles. The BOA fit system with a magnetic buckle makes putting on the helmet and fitting it a breeze, even with goggles on. This helmet enables wearers to open some vents and leave others closed to customize it for the ideal climate on any given day.  The Quantum is a great high-performance helmet. I upgraded to this one from the Vantage, and I have loved the comfortable fit that the snug BOA fit system enables me to get. My only gripe is that the ear pads stick out more, making the fit with the goggles strap a little harder, but it keeps my ears and entire head warm.

Review Ratings

Waterproofing

5/5
max pilling gave 5 of 5 stars. I find that even on deep powder days, my head never gets wet. The vents close really tight, and I don't find snow getting in. The hard plastic also makes water bead right off. The breathability is also great, so I don't get sweat or condensation on the inside of the helmet either.

Durability

5/5
max pilling gave 5 of 5 stars. The Quantum helmet is very durable. The multiple layers of foam and Aerocore combined with two hard plastic layers make it that way. It can take quite a few hits before it needs replacing. The smaller components are also really well-built, so I won't need to replace the helmet because of a broken strap.

Comfort

5/5
max pilling gave 5 of 5 stars. The Quantum MIPS is comfortable. It has a BOA wheel that enables me to get the fit just right. The sweat-wicking layer keeps me cool on warmer days, and the big ear pads keep me warm on cold days, leading to a great experience overall. It fits especially well on rounder heads.

Ventilation

4/5
max pilling gave 4 of 5 stars. Due to 22 vents that two sliders can adjust, I can always control how much or little airflow I have. The front vent flow with other goggles and sweat-wicking material keeps me cool on warmer days. I find that the air vents are rather easy to manipulate with gloves on to find the ideal airflow.

Adjustability

5/5
max pilling gave 5 of 5 stars. The BOA dial on the back of the helmet makes adjusting a breeze. Just throw it on and turn the dial. The BOA fit system allows for lots of room to change it up. The buckle system features a magnetic clip, which is easy to use, and the rest of the straps can be easily fit to size.

Protection

5/5
max pilling gave 5 of 5 stars. The biggest safety feature of this helmet is the MIPS on the inside. The MIPS system protects my head from rotational and angled impacts. This helmet will save me from concussions and keep my dome safe. The dual-core design also has a harder shell on top and a softer composite material on the bottom. The Aerocore design has additional crumple room to absorb impacts if and when I hit my head.
