Tl;dr: When selecting which DC snowboard boots are right for you, it is important to consider your experience level, riding location or most common terrain ridden, your particular sizing, and also your preferred lacing system. DC boot prices will typically range from just under $200, for a no frills standard lace up boot, to just north of $400 for more of a high performance boot.

Over the past thirty years, of sliding sideways on snow, I have seen boot tech progress from the original “snowboard boots” - aka Sorels with ski boot liners - all the way up to the highly functional snowboard boots of today. I am an expert rider and I’ve tried all the different lacing systems, flex levels and many different snowboard boot brands. I trust DC snowboard boots.

I know first hand the importance of having properly fitting snowboard boots and how having a boot that’s flex matches your skill level, riding style and weight can make all the difference. I am happy to share my experience inorder to enhance yours.

Who is DC?

DC has been a staple in the action sports world for nearly three decades now. DC Shoes was founded by the late, great, real life action hero and business mogul Ken Block, in the early 90’s. Since its inception, DC has worked with team riders and some of the world's greatest extreme athletes to develop top notch goods. DC snow heritage runs deep and is responsible for some of action sports' most iconic products. From beginners to pro level athletes, DC has a product with you in mind.

What to Consider When Buying DC Snowboard Boots

While perusing DC’s wide range of snowboard boots on offer, there are some critical elements to consider. Whatever your skill level, budget or personal preference, regarding function and fashion, DC boots can bring some soul to your soles.

1. What is your skill level?

Your skill level will be a major determining factor in what you will be looking for in a snowboard boot. Are you completely new to the slopes, do you ride everyday or maybe every eighth Saturday? Typically, a beginner should aim for a softer boot for greater comfort and ease of use. A more advanced rider will often prefer a stiffer boot that offers stability at high speeds and supports the ankles better during impacts.

2. What is the appropriate snowboard boot size for you?

Proper sizing is critical for both foot comfort and riding performance. DC boots typically fit “true to size” and align with your regular shoe size. Please consider factors like foot width, foot volume and sock thickness. There are few things that will affect your snowboarding experience than a pair of improper fitting snowboard boots.

3. What is the main type of terrain you will be riding?

The terrain that you prefer or have access to should also have a bearing on your choice of boots. Freestylers commonly prefer relatively flexible boots for their ability level, giving them more of the ability to tweak, butter, flex or bonk. Whereas freeriders are usually going to be drawn to more of a medium to stiffer flexing option.

4. What is your prefered lacing system?

DC offers several different lacing systems which consist of traditional laces, single BOA, double BOA and a combination of both standard laces and BOA. All of these different options have their advantages and disadvantages yet essentially all boil down to personal preference.

5. Are you looking for a DC snowboard boot that is compatible with a traditional snowboard binding or the Step On binding system?

DC offers boots that are compatible with either a standard “strap in” type of snowboard binding, as well as the latest Step On binding tech. This is a very important distinction to make and the two are not compatible or interchangeable with one another.

6. How much should DC snowboard boots cost?

DC snowboard boots vary in price, starting at around $200 for basic models to over $400 for the top shelf options. The price point choice will feature standard laces, softer flex and are a great option for both beginners and freestylers alike. A mid-range boot will offer a bit more in both comfort, control and more advanced lacing systems are available. High-end boots give you the best performance, featuring premium materials that should offer enhanced support and durability without adding extra weight.

What Are the Different Styles of DC Snowboard Boots?

DC offers a snowboard boot for essentially anyone. Whether you demand some of the most lightweight, high performance boots available or are literally shopping for your very first pair of snowboard boots, DC has got you my friend!

Flex

1. Soft to Mid Flex

DC gives these boots either a 4 or 5 on the flex rating. I recommend these snowboard boots for both beginners and the more freestyle motivated riders that prefer a softer flexing boot.

Benefits:

  • The most comfortable and easiest to use
  • Beginner friendly.
  • More budget friendly.

Be Aware:

  • Not ideal for extreme speeds or rougher, more technical terrain.
  • Will not be the most responsive boot available.

Examples:

2. Upper Middle Flex

DC rates these boots at a 6 flex. I personally recommend boots in this range for intermediate or advanced all-mountain riders, as well as the higher level freestyle riders.

Benefits:

  • Works very well in a variety of different terrain and conditions.
  • Provides a great balance between comfort and support or responsiveness.

Be Aware:

  • Not ideal for the most demanding of freeriders.
  • Will break down faster than the stiffer models.

Examples:

3. Stiffer Flex

DC rates these boots at 7-8 on the flex scale. These are the types of boots that I personally ride and would recommend to the hard charging all-mountain, freestyle powder hounds.

Benefits:

  • Ideal for most technical and variable conditions.
  • Provides the most ankle support and heel hold.
  • Most responsive.

Be Aware:

  • Tough for riding rails and smaller jumps.
  • Not beginner friendly.
  • Not exactly budget friendly either.

Examples:

DC offers a standard single BOA lacing system for comfort, ease and affordability.

Benefits:

  • One single BOA keeps lacing up the most simple.
  • Beginner and budget friendly.

Be Aware:

  • Does not provide the most secure or customizable fit.

Examples:

2. Dual Zone BOA

DC offers a Dual Zone BOA lacing system on several of their boot models. This brings the ease of use BOA is known for with the added ability to tighten the upper and lower portions of the boot independently of one another.

Benefits:

  • Dual BOA keeps lacing simple yet more customizable.

Be Aware:

  • Does not provide the most secure or customizable fit.

Examples:

3. Classic Lacing

DC standard lacing snowboard boots are a classic, bringing that og style. Ain’t nothing to it but to do it. Lace em up tight, run em loose, you choose.

Benefits:

  • Reliable and timeless.
  • If your lace breaks just grab another.

Be Aware:

  • Harder to let your feet “breathe” between laps.

Example:

4. Hybrid

DC has gone and done it with these ones! Standard lacing boot with their new, patent-pending SUPERLOCK hell harness, controlled with BOA.

Benefits:

Benefits:

  • Designed specifically for women and don’t sacrifice comfort or performance.
  • Often come in designs, styles and colors aimed toward women

Be Aware:

  • Fewer options in this category compared to men’s or unisex boots.

How to Choose the Right DC Snowboard Boots for You

Choosing the right snowboard boots for your unique set of needs can be challenging. Luckily, it has never been easier than in today's winter sports e-commerce landscape. Here at Curated, the resources, to further educate and inform yourself, flow like wine and beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano.

Here are some examples to help get you started off on the right foot. Pun intended.

Billy: A beginner rider that just wants to be comfortable and learn to turn.

Billy has ridden a snowboard a couple times but it’s been years since his last go at it. He’s not sure if it is the years that have passed or the couple of bumps he took to the noggin but all he really remembers from his last time snowboarding is how uncomfortable his feet were and that his gosh darn boot laces keep coming untied.

Features Billy should look for:

  • A soft forgiving boot to help him learn the basics.
  • A boot with a BOA lacing system

DC Boot Example: DC Men’s Phase BOA Snowboard Boots

Gina: An intermediate shred baddie wanting a boot she can level up with.

Gina has averaged 10 days a season for the last ten seasons. Since she can now tele-commute to work, she has finally realized her dream of moving to a mountain town and is planning to blow her usual 10 days a season out of the water. She’s got the basic skills down, and with the new found time to focus on her true passion-snowboarding, she wants a boot that can meet her where she’s currently at, yet keep up as she progresses beyond her wildest dreams. Oh, and she wants to look good while doing it, duh.

Features Gina should look for:

  • A mid flexing boot provides support, response and is still very comfortable.
  • Dual Zone BOA allows for easy use and a custom fit.
  • Classy look with just a little bit of flair

Boot Example: DC Women’s Lotus Snowboard Boots

Jimmy: He’s probably the best boarder on the mountain - but you certainly didn’t hear it from him

No cap, Jimmy is the main character whenever he straps on a board. A humble hero who wants a boot that’ll keep up with him-even at 50+mph straight lining out of gaper’s gulch. When conditions are slay, he rides bell to bell at his home mountain, tuning gear at the local shop at night to keep the dream alive-and the lights on. His days on the splitboard are nothing short of epic, and Jimmy requires a boot that matches his brawn.

Features Jimmy should look for:

  • Stiff flexing boot-the stiffer the better usually.
  • Dual Zone BOA for easy adjustments-pop them loose for the skin or chair ride up and latch 'em down tight for the descent.
  • Response Liner lll is the most technical and responsive liner DC makes

Boot Example: DC Men’s Transcend BOA or Men’s Phantom BOA
