The Curated Take

4.2/5

The Flylow Women's Lucy 3L jacket is well suited for cold, windy conditions as it offers excellent insulation and wind protection. It is ideal for cold climates like Minnesota, Wisconsin, Utah, and Colorado. Its durable design and Intuitive Fabric layer provide reliable waterproofing, though the jacket can get wet in heavy, wet powder conditions. It's not the most breathable, so it's not recommended for sunny, warm days. The jacket features convenient pockets, a hood that fits over helmets, and a quilted inner lining for added comfort. It's a great choice for skiers prioritizing warmth, durability, and protection against the elements.

Expert Reviews of the Flylow Women's Lucy 3L Jacket

Claire L I've had this jacket for about four years, but I'll preface this by saying that it's one of my many jackets — it doesn't quite meet every need for me. To start, it insulates very well, and I love how I can take this jacket out in any cold temperature and know I'll be warm. There are also a lot of convenient pockets with zippers for phones and other important items. The hood makes a big difference, too, especially if it's windy out (and it fits perfectly over my helmet!). However, this is not a jacket I take out if it's sunny and remotely warm. There are vents under the arms, but I feel like those don't do a ton for the jacket. I've had to ski down and change jackets because this one doesn't accommodate well to a wide range of changing temperatures, so I opted to grab a lighter shell. This jacket also is waterproof, but I've come back from a day of deep, wet powder skiing and had the jacket almost soaked through. I'd recommend something more attuned to that over this jacket for something to take through the steep and deep.

Review Ratings

Aesthetics

5/5
Claire L gave 5 of 5 stars. One thing that I love about Flylow's jackets is that they always seem to hit the nail of aesthetics right on the head. All of their jacket colors are awesome jewel tones or earthy tones, which I love to wear skiing. Their jackets are also somewhat form-fitting while also giving large amounts of room to move around and stretch in. I can spot a Flylow jacket from a mile away, and I love how recognizable the designs and fit of their jackets have become.

Waterproofing

3/5
Claire L gave 3 of 5 stars. To preface, I've never had an issue with this jacket in terms of getting wet. The Intuitive Fabric layer provides a reliable layer of waterproofing on top of the puffy insulating layer, keeping me both warm and dry. I've skied in blizzards, sleet, rain, and sunny conditions, and I've never had an issue with this jacket protecting me from the elements. My only qualm is that the material of the jacket itself can get pretty wet, unlike a Gortex/H2NO material, which completely repels water.

Durability

5/5
Claire L gave 5 of 5 stars. One thing I love about Flylow's products is that they're all extremely durable. From my snow pants to my jackets, all of my Flylow gear is still in pristine condition. As a skier who travels quite a bit, this jacket has been shoved into bags with my other gear (with sharp edges) and has never been damaged. I've also skied in the trees, on abrasive snow, and through dirt — the jacket shows no evidence that I've done such things.

Comfort

4/5
Claire L gave 4 of 5 stars. The quilted inner lining of this jacket is so incredibly soft and padded, it feels like a blanket. The jacket isn't super stiff, even when it's brand new, so it's comfortable and has ease of movement while skiing, playing outside, whatever. There's still tons of room to make big movements while skiing while still fitting to my form and providing that protecting and warm layer that is essential.

Warmth

5/5
Claire L gave 5 of 5 stars. My favorite story about the warmth of this jacket is when I was skiing Christmas day in northern Minnesota — it was -35 degrees Fahrenheit. I opted for the warmest jacket in my closet and chose this one. It kept me warm for the entire day, from my first warmup run to my exhausting last run. Even the frigid wind couldn't penetrate this jacket, and the insulating layers beneath the windbreaking layer kept me toasty all day.

Breathability

3/5
Claire L gave 3 of 5 stars. Although I love the warmth and durability of this jacket, it can feel somewhat heavy on those warmer, sunnier days. Flylow has tons of great options for lighter, more spring-season-oriented jackets. This jacket is really great for deep winter days and does have vents to allow for some extra breathability, but a shell with another layer underneath might be a better option for sunny, warm days.

FAQs

What was your favorite moment with this gear?

Claire L My favorite moment with this jacket must've been skiing deep powder in Steamboat Springs. It was the first day that the backside of the mountain was open with 24"+ of new snow and I was up to my waist in powder all day. I was super thankful for the powder skirt that the jacket has — it kept me dry throughout my ski day.

What is the value for the money versus other options?

Claire L I think that this jacket is definitely worth the money. The only note I'd have on it is that the outer shell is made from Flylow's windbreaker material (branded as Intuitive Fabrics), and it's not quite Gortex/H2NO, so the material does still get wet but doesn't soak through. For a completely water-repellent material, look for something along the lines of that material. Other than that, this jacket is extremely protective, warm, durable, and comfortable, and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a jacket.
