Expert Reviews of the Lodge 10.5 Inch Cast Iron Griddle
Di Doherty This cast iron griddle pan is a versatile addition to any kitchen. It’s great for eggs, pancakes, grilled cheese, and can even double as a small baking pan. Cast iron has excellent heat distribution, meaning that my eggs and grilled cheese came out uniformly cooked and evenly browned.
I’ve used this pan to make broiled omelets, resulting in an evenly cooked, puffy, and tasty breakfast. It’s ideal for grilled cheese or other toasted sandwiches, as the low sides make it easy to get a spatula under them and flip them. I’ve also used it to bake a small batch of homemade biscuits, resulting in a beautifully golden exterior.
Of course, this griddle isn’t for everyone. It has all the usual issues that cast iron does, such as being heavy, needing to be handwashed, and requiring maintenance in terms of oiling and restoring the seasoning. The low sides also mean that it can’t substitute for a frying pan entirely, as what's cooking can spill over. The low rim will hold in some butter, oil, or bacon fat, but anything too saucy will overflow the edge.
Lodge makes affordable, high-quality cookware; this griddle pan is no exception. With the little bit of effort that cast iron requires, this multi-purpose piece of cookware will last a lifetime.

Ease of Cleaning
3/5
Di Doherty gave 3 of 5 stars. Seasoned cast iron always requires special care. It can’t go in the dishwasher, and it’s a good idea to be sparing when using soap on it to preserve the seasoning. However, as it’s pretty much just a flat surface, it is easier to clean than a number of other pieces of cast iron cookware. But compared to competitor’s griddles, I expect it’s about average.
Non-Stick Coating
3/5
Di Doherty gave 3 of 5 stars. A well-cared-for seasoning has natural nonstick properties, making cast iron easier to clean. I think it’s good enough that I cook eggs on this griddle. It does require a little extra effort to get them off compared to a nonstick skillet, but it's not enough for it to be problematic.
Size
4/5
Di Doherty gave 4 of 5 stars. I think that this is a good size, though I usually only use it for myself. It is a bit bigger than needed for one grilled cheese sandwich, but it's a good size for two of them. Four eggs will fit in it, and so will a few pancakes. But it’s a size that’s easy to handle and is just about perfect for a small baking sheet.
Compatibility
5/5
Di Doherty gave 5 of 5 stars. No matter what kind of stove you have, this cast iron griddle will work. It even works with induction. It’s made entirely of cast iron, so it’s also oven and broiler safe. I’ve used it in both cases as a small baking sheet and also to put the finishing touches on an omelet under the broiler. The only concern is that as cast iron is heavy, it can scratch glass stovetops, so be careful with it.
Heat Conductivity
5/5
Di Doherty gave 5 of 5 stars. Cast iron has excellent heat conductivity, and I’ve never had an issue with the pan failing to heat. Even when used to bake, the results are evenly browned and cooked, even on the bottom. It does hold heat extremely well, so be careful to use oven mitts to move it, even when it’s been off the heat for a while.
Durability
5/5
Di Doherty gave 5 of 5 stars. Cast iron is known for its ability to last. This griddle could potentially be passed down to my grandchildren. This griddle is made out of a thick piece of cast iron, meaning that I don’t have to worry about warping or bending. Even if the seasoning is damaged or it rusts a bit, the griddle can be restored to its former glory with a bit of extra TLC.
FAQs
What do you love about this product?
Di Doherty I love two things about this griddle: its versatility and its low sides. It can be used as a baking sheet, to make grilled cheese, eggs, pancakes, French toast, and toast bread. Its low sides make it easy to flip things over, as well as keep an eye on the edges of whatever is cooking to see that it’s browning well.
What was your favorite moment with this gear?
Di Doherty My favorite moment was figuring out it was even more versatile than I thought when I used it to bake a small batch of biscuits. Not only did this prevent me from having to fish out my baking sheets, but cast iron results in gorgeous, evenly browned baked goods. It’s even a pretty display.
Why did you choose this product?
Di Doherty I actually ended up with this because my mom was raving about it. She’s always been a fan of griddles (she has an electric one she loves) and got this because she thought it’d work the same but would be better for one or two people. Since she was so taken with it, and I’m a fan of Lodge’s products, I felt I had to try it. I haven’t been disappointed.
What is the value for the money versus other options?
Di Doherty As with most of Lodge’s cast iron, this griddle comes in on the affordable end of cast iron griddles. There are stainless steel ones that are cheaper, but in terms of cast iron, it’s good value for the money. It isn’t the cheapest option, but Lodge is known for its quality and made in the USA, making it a very practical choice.
