Expert Reviews of the Look Pivot 12 GW Ski Bindings

Bekah West The Look Pivot 12 bindings shine in high-performance and aggressive skiing. They have exceptional power transmission and durability, and they seamlessly accommodate quality performance everywhere from the park to the powder. Although these bindings could be used by anyone, I would recommend them to advanced and expert skiers who prioritize stability, responsiveness, and durability. They are suitable for those who enjoy aggressive skiing across different terrains. While slightly heavy, I believe the benefits in performance outweighed this aspect. The swiveling heel on these also provides additional reliability on release, laterally especially, adding a safety aspect that not many other bindings provide. Despite the performance of these bindings in various conditions, it is important to note that the swiveling heel piece has to be lined up perfectly to clip in. Because of this, I did find it a little difficult to clip back into them in deep snow, but it was manageable, and the performance and release reliability of the binding were well worth it.
max pilling The best part of this binding is it's reliability. The Look Pivot stands out from other bindings because it has a rotating heel piece. This gives the foot a little bit more leeway when landing because the heel can shift a bit and won't pop out. This leads to more reliability while still keeping the knees safe. The pivot line is a favorite among freeskiers because this rotating heel helps with landing after spinning. These bindings are super reliable, and for me the DIN of 12 is more than enough.

Release Reliability

Bekah West gave 5 of 5 stars. The Look Pivot 12 GW bindings boast unparalleled release reliability, making them a standout choice for safety-conscious skiers. The swiveling heel piece, the Pivot's stand-out feature, provides an extra layer of assurance with its dependable lateral release mechanism that not many other bindings provide. This design not only enhances overall safety on the slopes but also serves as a safeguard for the knees, offering peace of mind and minimizing the risk of injury during unexpected maneuvers. The binding's release reliability is a crucial factor that contributes to my confidence and trust in navigating diverse terrains with these bindings.

Durability

4/5
Bekah West gave 4 of 5 stars. The durability of the Look Pivot 12 GW bindings is nothing short of impressive. These bindings withstand the demands of aggressive skiing and challenging terrains with remarkable resilience. max pilling gave 4 of 5 stars. While the bindings do have more moving parts and more plastic, surprisingly, these hold up very well. I have never heard of anyone breaking the bindings. I've skied older versions for years without any complaints. Because the heel rotates it can take more of a beating — instead of cracking when being hit, it rotates.

Versatility

5/5
Bekah West gave 5 of 5 stars. The Look Pivot 12 GW bindings redefine versatility on the slopes. Whether carving on groomed runs, navigating through powder, or challenging aggressive terrains, these bindings effortlessly adapt to varied skiing conditions. Their capacity to accommodate both alpine and GripWalk boot soles broadens the scope of skiing setups, providing a dynamic and adaptable experience for skiers who seek versatility without compromising performance. Being able to easily adjust your bindings on a day-to-day basis is a great feature. Although these bindings have a higher price tag, being able to have one setup that accommodates different boot soles is important, and more of a money saver than anything. From the park to the backcountry, the Look Pivot 12 GW bindings prove to be a reliable companion, showcasing their ability to excel across a spectrum of terrains and styles.
max pilling gave 4 of 5 stars. This is pretty versatile for a resort binding. It skis groomers well and can be used for park and freestyle. and will be enough DIN for 90% of skiers. The only reason I have it a 4 instead of 5 stars is because its older sibling of the 14 and 18 pivots can be mounted with a system that enables them to be used to tour as well.

Power Transfer

5/5
Bekah West gave 5 of 5 stars. The Look Pivot 12 GW bindings redefine power transfer on the slopes. With an unparalleled connection between boot and ski, each turn becomes a seamless transmission of energy and control. The bindings excel in providing the responsiveness needed for aggressive skiing styles, delivering a precise and powerful feel. Whether carving through groomers, grinding rails, or navigating challenging terrains, the Look Pivot 12 GW bindings ensure that every movement translates effortlessly into an exhilarating skiing experience.
max pilling gave 5 of 5 stars. I've found that this binding enables me to be super precise with my skiing. The anti-friction device enables me to have a smooth ride without losing any power. This ski did surprisingly well at doing big carves and really digging deep into it. Even though the heel piece rotates, I didn't lose any power in this binding.

FAQs

What do you love about this product?

Bekah West What's to love about the Look Pivot 12 binding? Oh, where do I start? The Pivot bindings provide an unrivaled power transmission; every carve feels like an orchestrated dance between precision and stability. Another feature I love about these is the durability — I have put these through the ringer. From tackling challenging terrains to eating it and banging them around in the park, every move feels effortless, and they handle the demands of my skiing style with unwavering reliability. The versatility to seamlessly switch between terrains is incredible. They are just the perfect all-mountain binding.
max pilling I love the durability, reliability, and rotating heel on the Pivot. The small mounting plate enables the ski to flex naturally, while the rotating heel helps keep knees safe and comes in handy in not popping out on big landings. I've never prematurely popped out in these bindings, and I felt that when I did pop out it was preventing injury.

What was your favorite moment with this gear?

Bekah West My favorite moment with the Look Pivot 12 bindings unfolded in a testament to their remarkable durability. After an incredible day of skiing, my friend inadvertently left her ski racks unlocked, sending my skis, equipped with these bindings, flying off the car on a freeway. Despite turning around to retrieve them immediately, they were not on the road, and we assumed they were lost for good. And if they were found, a brake or heel piece had to have been knocked off or the skis would be dented. After leaving my contact details with the Idaho Department of Transportation, I received a call two weeks later. To my disbelief, one of their sheds, two hours away, had my skis in their lost and found. Anticipating the worst, I was amazed to find the Look Pivot 12 bindings in absolute mint condition. No more than a scratch that easily could've been from running into a tree or something — no evidence of the harrowing freeway ordeal. This unexpected reunion reaffirmed their resilience, leaving me in awe of the bindings' durability and proving their worth beyond measure. And, of course, a really memorable incident and funny story.
max pilling While skiing these, my friend and I both had a pair of Pivot 12s. He broke his ski on a jump, but in that crash the binding kept his knee safe. These bindings are great at only releasing when necessary.

Why did you choose this product?

Bekah West Choosing the Look Pivot 12 GW binding was a no-brainer for me, and there are countless reasons why it trumps almost all other bindings on the market. Safety is paramount and takes center stage when navigating the slopes, and that was a primary consideration in my decision. The swiveling heel piece emerged as a game-changer, offering an additional layer of reassurance with its reliable lateral release. From the park to powder, having the added safety feature allows me to push the limits confidently. I mean, who knows how many times this has saved my knees during unexpected twists and turns on the mountain? The peace of mind that comes with this binding's safety features solidifies its position as my go-to choice for conquering the slopes with confidence and minimizing the risk of injury.
max pilling I like to do lots of spins and jumps, and the pivots are amazing at catering to freeskiers. The pivot heel piece enables my heel to be able to travel a little bit before I release. This helps prevent premature releases when spinning and landing from jumps. It really helps with reliability for free skiing.

What is the value for the money versus other options?

Bekah West Back to the main reason I bought these bindings, the pivoting heel safety aspect. The additional safety feature is enough of a reason alone to pay the extra bucks for this binding. The price of this binding is offset by the awesome durability and reliability of the binding. These will pay for themselves over time through the longevity and mitigation of injuries.
