As many know, golf has had a substantial boom over the course of the past three years. One of the segments within the golf population that has seen the biggest increase in participation and popularity has been female golfers.

For me, as a PGA Professional and someone with nearly three decades of experience growing the game under my belt, this increase in participation among women is music to my ears. Women, from a business standpoint, generally are the deciding factor in making purchases within a family. As interest in golf continues to rise with ladies, the golf industry will continue to be in a very good position.

Today, I wanted to share with all the female golfers some of my top picks for golf clubs as we close out 2023 and move into 2024. There are countless options to choose from for women, but that in and of itself can cause confusion and handcuff a potential buyer with so many options to consider.

What I will cover in this article are my top pics for ladies in the following categories:

Additionally, it is important for women to consider where their game is currently and what their needs may be in order to make a sound decision on what to purchase.

So now, it’s time to tee it up and help those ladies looking for some buying advice!

Before We Look At Club Options…

There are a few things you want to consider before jumping into looking at new clubs. The following are some of the key considerations you should have in mind prior to purchasing any new irons, woods, or a putter.

What Is Your Current Level of Play?

Knowing where your game currently sits, and more importantly, being realistic about that, is very important in considering any new pieces of equipment. Many times, golfers make impulsive purchases based on advertisements of the latest and greatest equipment on the market, regardless of whether or not it is something that is right for them. Here are the things to consider about your game before you make a purchase:

  • What is your current handicap or scoring average?
  • On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your ball-striking ability?
  • What is your swing speed with a driver and 7 iron?
  • What are your current swing flaws (slice, hook, topped shots, etc.)?

What Is Your Budget?

Luckily, there is a club for every budget in today's marketplace. However, as the old saying goes, “You get what you pay for,” rings true with golf equipment. When budget is of consideration, make sure to find a good balance between what you can afford and what you need most.

There is nothing worse than buying cheap to save money and then having to re-up for something new when that cheaper club breaks a few weeks after purchase. There is no need to be hasty in your purchase. Remember to weigh the pros and cons in terms of price and quality first, all based on your needs with your game.

Remember, a Curated Golf Expert is only a click away to assist you.

To Fit or Not to Fit…

I’ve learned recently that getting professionally fit for equipment is a game changer. I took one of my students in for a full bag fitting a couple of months ago, and it changed his game as well as my ability to help him as a coach.

These are some of the questions you can get answered at a fitting: Which lightweight graphite shafts would be best for you? Would a mallet putter or blade putter style suit you best? Do you need a strong lofted 3-wood or maybe a 5-wood? Would a 3, 4, 5, or 6-hybrid work best for you? Could you get away with looking at basic beginner-boxed complete sets? Do you need cavity backs in your iron club head?

If it is something that you can afford to do, get professionally fit!

Now, The Star of our Show…Some of the Best Women's Golf Clubs in 2023

Now that you have a better understanding of the preliminary things to know before you consider what to buy, I will share with you a few of my recommendations.

Iron Set Recommendations For Women Golfers

The following five iron set suggestions are by no means the end-all-be-all in your search for equipment. There are many more great options beyond my suggestions below. As I mentioned previously, contacting a Curated Golf Expert is just one click away, and they can help you take a deep dive into clubs that will be a great fit for you.

1. Callaway Big Bertha REVA Irons

The Callaway Big Bertha REVA Irons are a fantastic option for women looking for forgiving irons. Through Callaway’s use of Artificial Intelligence, they can fit the swings of a vast variety of women golfers.

It’s through that use of AI that Callaway designs the faces of the Big Bertha REVA irons, using an algorithm of thousands of swing types. These irons offer a lower center of gravity, which makes them super easy for women to launch the ball the way they want to. These are very forgiving irons and are built to help correct the most common flaws in a swing, including the ever-present slice.

The Callaway Big Bertha REVA irons are constantly in the conversation of which irons are best for today’s female golfer and are well worth checking out.

2. TaylorMade Women's Stealth Combo Set

The TaylorMade Women's Stealth Combo Set is designed for that mid-to-high handicap lady golfer looking for more forgiveness in their irons. From the wedge and all the way up to the long irons, each club is made to help women get the ball up faster and sail further.

These hollow body-designed irons have what TaylorMade calls a “Cap Back Design,” which is a cap in the back of the head along with a toe wrap. These traits allow for more flexibility in the face and help create more speed. Callaway’s ECHO Damping system helps prevent unwanted vibrations at impact and assists that “Cap Back Design” in creating more ball speed coming off the face.

TaylorMade is one of the game's leaders in creating golf clubs that allow golfers of all genders and abilities to play their best golf possible. That is clearly seen in the TaylorMade Women's Stealth Combo Set, making them one of the best in game improvement irons for women.

3. Cleveland Women's Launcher XL Halo Irons

Anyone who has read any of my posts on golf equipment knows full well of my long-standing relationship with Cleveland and Srixon Golf. This next club set is a great example of the game-enhancing offerings that Cleveland Golf has and is a big part of why I love the brand.

The Cleveland Women's Launcher XL Halo Iron Set is perfect for higher handicap ladies who are looking to launch the ball from any line and with any club. The extra-large head shape delivers everything a high-handicap golfer could possibly ask for, including a higher launch, more forgiveness, and increased distance.

The bigger head design allows for a much higher MOI and helps to stabilize the face at impact. This aids in maximizing distance no matter where on the face the ball is struck.

Some of the best features, in my opinion, that are offered on many of the clubs made by Cleveland Golf include the following:

  • Rail To V-Shaped Soles: This is a progressive rail system from long irons and down to the wedges. Rails on the longer irons help in creating a smooth interaction with the turf at impact. As the clubs gain more loft, the sole of the club is progressing toward more of a V-shape to help offer more control.
  • MainFrame Technology: This is a standard in Cleveland and Srixon’s club design. Like Callaway, Cleveland uses the power of artificial intelligence to create variable faces from iron to iron. That, combined with a unique weight pad in the head, ensures that a maximum level of forgiveness is seen across the clubface.
  • Loft-Specific Grooves: This is an intuitive technology offered in Cleveland irons. The longer irons have wide, flatter grooves to help in maximizing distance. As the irons increase in loft, the gloves are more closely spaced, allowing for higher spinning shots with the short irons and wedges coming into the greens.

4. Srixon Women's ZX5 MKII Irons

As mentioned earlier, I am a long-time Srixon and Cleveland staff professional. The Srixon ZX5 MKII irons, in the men's version, are what are currently in my bag. With that being the case, it makes perfect sense that I would recommend the Srixon Women’s ZX5 MKII irons.

These irons are stylish, powerful, and forgiving. That is a combination that any golfer would want in their clubs. The ZX5 MKII’s are cavity back irons with a premium forged feel. The head itself offers a wide sole that is not too big and a slight offset design. These irons have a very clean look while offering great game-enhancing features. Like in the Cleveland Women's Launcher XL Halo Iron set, the ZX5 MKII’s offers Cleveland and Srixon’s MainFrame Technology, a variable thickness pattern of grooves, channels, and cavities milled into the backside of the iron face maximizes flex at impact for increased ball speed.

Similarly, like in the Cleveland’s, the ZX5 MKII’s have progressive, loft-specific grooves, as well as a progressive sole system from the long irons and down to the approach wedge.

These are simply great clubs for women with a middle to low handicap.

Driver Recommendations For Women Golfers

1. TaylorMade Stealth HD Women's Driver

TaylorMade has really set itself apart over the past decade. They are consistently one of the game's leaders in producing the finest equipment in the game, from irons to drivers.

You can rarely do a recommendation piece, for any golfer type, male, female, high handicap to scratch, without mentioning TaylorMade. That is certainly the case as we look at some of the best drivers for female golfers.

The TaylorMade Women's Stealth HD Driver is ideal for middle to single-digit handicap golfers who are looking for maximum forgiveness and increased distance. This driver has a draw bias to help promote straighter ball flights for those who frequently miss via a slice.

The 60X Carbon Twist Face uses layers of lightweight carbon to help increase stability at impact and allow for maximum forgiveness. The Thru-Slot Speed Pocket helps in getting low mishits to reach a higher launch than they would without that driver head feature.

TaylorMade’s Asymmetric Inertia Generator technology helps keep the clubhead accelerating prior to and during impact through its unique aerodynamic characteristics.

The TaylorMade Women's Stealth HD Driver is well worth the investment for women looking to hit more controlled, higher, and longer drives.

2. Callaway Women's Mavrik Driver

Another consistent leader in the club game is Callaway Golf. With the Callaway MAVRIK Women’s Driver, players who may traditionally hit a weaker slice can find some help. This driver has a slight draw bias which helps to maximize forgiveness and lessen the effects of a slice. Additionally, through that face forgiveness, women can get the most distance possible out of their tee shots. All levels of women players, from beginners to advanced, will find the Callaway MAVRIK Women’s Driver very useful.

Like many manufacturers, Callaway takes advantage of Artificial Intelligence to help create club heads that are faster and more forgiving. In this case, Callaway used AI to create its Flash Face SS20 technology.

One of Callaway’s most notable advancements in design is its Jailbreak Technology. These are bars located behind the face to help stabilize the crown and sole. This helps in increasing ball speed and, in turn, creates the opportunity for more distance.

This is a great option for any female golfer, regardless of ability.

3. XXIO 12 Ladies Driver

A lesser-known company part of the Cleveland and Srixon family is XXIO. What sets XXIO apart is the care that is taken in creating some of the lightest clubs on the market today, made specifically for golfers with slower swing speeds. These are typically higher-end clubs; however, you can catch them on discount right now on Curated, so they are well worth looking at.

The XXIO 12 Ladies Driver has been coined by many as a game-changing club design for women. The aerodynamics and advanced technologies you find built into XXIO’s 12 Ladies Driver help deliver incredible speed and purer strikes even off of slower swing speeds.

One key unique piece of tech you find in these drivers is called ActivWing. It helps improve the aerodynamics at the start of your downswing and stabilizes the clubhead, allowing for a better impact position. Rebound Frame technology, the same as you will find in Srixon’s driver offerings, helps to increase ball speed coming off the face and, in turn, gives you more distance off the tee.

Fairway Wood and Hybrid Recommendations For Women Golfers

1. Callaway Women's Rogue ST Max Fairway Wood

The Callaway Women's Rogue ST Max Fairway Wood is intended for women with a middle to higher handicap. In all honesty, however, these woods could help any woman looking to launch the ball higher and who need a slightly draw-biased fairway wood.

The Callaway Women’s Rogue ST Max Fairway Wood comes in a variety of loft options from 15 to 27 degrees. That really helps in building a bag of clubs that can fill in any gaps among the longer clubs.

The faces of these fairway woods come complete with Callaway’s AI Face Optimization and Jailbreak technology, as mentioned previously with their driver. Additionally, what Callaway refers to as Batwing Technology, or stabilizers on either side of the head, helps create increased stability and quicker ball speeds.

A Tungsten Speed Cartridge brings up to 27 grams of high-density tungsten to the front of the head, which sits low, allowing for greater ball speeds and lower spin for more control.

2. TaylorMade Women's Stealth Fairway Wood

The TaylorMade Women's Stealth Fairway Wood was designed for all female golfers, regardless of their skill level. It helps improve launch consistency for golfers with moderate swing speeds. The clubs have lightweight shafts and grips. They also have corrective face technologies and a Speed Pocket sole construction. These features help to make ball flights more accurate and carry distances deeper. This improves positions on the green or fairway.

TaylorMade's 3D Carbon Crown repositions weight to improve launch off the tee or fairway. It does so by moving weight from the high toe area to the sole for better performance. The V Steel Sole Design reduces turf interaction and works well on different course conditions. Lowering the center of gravity by moving weight to the sole minimizes low running shots.

TaylorMade's Twist Face technology adjusts the club's face angles for better accuracy. The sole of the club has Thru-Slot Speed Pocket technology. This acts like a trampoline and makes the ball go faster. It works especially well when the ball is hit lower on the clubface.

3. Cleveland Women's Launcher XL Halo Hybrid

The Cleveland Women's Launcher XL Halo Hybrid is designed for mid-to-low handicap players. It helps them achieve higher launch with their longer clubs. These hybrids have shorter shafts. This makes it easier to maintain posture at impact. It also improves the descent angles of the ball as it approaches the green.

The XL Head Design increases stability and forgiveness with its extra-large head. The club has three glide rails on its sole. These glide rails cut through the turf and help keep the face square. This helps the ball fly straighter.

The Women's Launcher XL Halo Hybrids use Rebound Frame technology, like other Cleveland and Srixon wood clubs. The Rebound Frame has two zones: one flexible and one rigid. These zones work together to transfer energy to the golf ball, allowing it to go faster off the clubface.

To improve balance from the grip to the head, Cleveland put an 8-gram weight in the grip. This gives you more control without needing to put in extra effort.

Finally, Cleveland's HiBore Crown Step design lowers the center of gravity. This construction helps increase launch for higher ball flights.

4. TaylorMade Women's Stealth Rescue Hybrid

The TaylorMade Women's Stealth Rescue Hybrid is great for golfers of all skill levels. What golfers want from a hybrid is accuracy, distance, and a high launch, and that is what this club offers.

The Carbon Crown clubhead consists of a lightweight carbon material. This saves mass and lowers the center of gravity. As a result, the ball flights are high. The V steel sole design splits through the turf and distributes weight for a better and easier launch.

TaylorMade made the C300 Steel Twist Face to fix off-center hits and boost ball speeds. The club's sole has a special pocket that assists in making the ball go faster, even on bad strikes. That pocket also helps for a truer flight and shots that land softer on the greens.

Wedge Recommendations For Women Golfers

1. Cleveland Women's CBX Zipcore Wedge

The Cleveland Women's CBX Zipcore Wedge is great for mid to high-handicap golfers. They are forgiving and have a soft feel. Cleveland designs these wedges specifically with women golfers in mind.

The CBX Zipcore wedge has a Hollow Cavity Design that adds weight to the toe and a hollow chamber near the heel. This design focuses on forgiveness when the ball hits different parts of the face.

Cleveland's ZipCore design offers a light and low-density core. This core improves stability and reduces vibrations. UltiZip Grooves have extra sharp and deep grooves on the face. They help remove debris from the hitting area. This creates more contact points and maximizes spin on the golf ball.

The sole of the wedges changes with the lofts. The V-, C-, and S-shaped soles deliver the performance players need on the greens. This is true for every optional wedge.

Cleveland's Women's CBX Zipcore Wedges are a great choice for any female golfer.

2. Callaway Golf Women's Jaws Raw Wedge

Looking to improve your wedge game? Adding the Callaway Golf Women's Jaws Raw Wedge to your bag could help. These wedges have some of the most aggressive grooves in golf. Its raw face promotes maximum spin, giving you more control. To increase friction for more spin, the groove edge is exposed. It can rust over time, creating that "raw" finish. That may look different, but that is by design, and it is still very playable. The rest of the clubhead maintains its premium look.

The Weight Balanced Design uses Tungsten technology to center the CG. This improves control and feel. The club has various hosel lengths and toe pads. They help control trajectory and improve forgiveness.

Putter Recommendations For Women Golfers

1. Cleveland Women's HB Soft Milled #10.5 Slant Neck Putter

The Cleveland Women's HB Soft Milled #10.5 Slant Neck Putter is a high-quality putter. It has advanced features and technologies, all at a reasonable price.

The putter has a milled head. It is first cast, and then CNC milled. This gives it precise weighting and crisp lines. Smarter milling reduces waste. It also keeps the cost reasonable.

The putter has Speed Optimized Face Technology. To keep the ball speed consistent, the putter ensures the same speed across its face. Golfers feel more confident when using this new technology because it feels better.

2. Wilson Infinite Putter Windy City

The Wilson Infinite Putter Windy City is a basic blade shape putter. It has a single shaft offset hosel construction with a Plumber's Neck design. The putter has features that make it very versatile. It allows minimal face rotation and helps control short and long putts. The balanced design and glare-reducing finish make alignment easier.

The club face is double-milled. This improves consistency, face control, and distance control. Counterbalanced Technology makes it easier to control and keep a steady pace while putting. That happens by way of the balance point moving closer to the hands.

The PVD head finish is dark which helps to reduce glare and highlight sightlines. The Oversized Grip is heavy and helps limit face rotation during the stroke. Because it is perforated, it also provides a comfortable feeling in the hands.
