Tl;dr: Female golfers, especially beginners and those with higher handicaps, often seek complete club sets to meet their equipment needs. Depending on the manufacturer, most sets offer a driver, some woods or hybrids, a few irons, a wedge or two, a putter, and a golf bag.

The game of golf has seen tremendous growth since the middle of 2020. Many groups of golfers have contributed to the game's success, but none has had more of an impact than women golfers.

Recently, I posted here on Curated: Women's Golf: The Top Recommended Golf Clubs for Ladies. Today, I wanted to share information and recommendations on complete sets for women.

What Is a Complete Golf Club Set?

What exactly is a complete set of golf clubs? Each manufacturer's complete set of clubs varies. Most offer a driver, fairway wood, hybrid, irons, a wedge or two, and a putter. Most come in a standard cart or carry bag as well. Additionally, the set includes accessories like headcovers for woods and hybrids. It also includes a headcover for the putter.

  • Driver: The specifics of the driver vary depending on the manufacturer. The loft is the most notable part of the driver, where you will see variance. Most hover near a standard 10 to 10.5 degrees, but some may have a high-lofted driver with as much as 12 to 13 degrees of loft. Most of the time, complete sets have basic drivers. The driver lacks adjustability and other top driver technology.
  • Fairway Woods: Fairway woods vary in how many are in a set and in the lofts each has. The included fairway woods are usually basic in terms of the offered technology. They are good, solid clubs but may lack advanced features found in top-line, individually sold fairway woods.
  • Hybrids: Like fairway woods, the number of hybrids offered varies by manufacturer. The lofts of each hybrid also vary. Most women's complete sets emphasize providing woods and hybrids. Instead of long irons. This is because they are easier to use.
  • Iron Set: The iron set within the complete set offering usually starts with a 5 or 6 iron and runs down to a pitching wedge at a minimum.
  • Wedges: Many women’s complete sets come with a standard pitching wedge. Some also offer a second wedge. This could be anything from an approach wedge, gap wedge, sand wedge, or lob wedge. Manufacturers vary the names and degrees of loft on the wedges.
  • Putter: A standard putter completes the set in most cases. More often than not, the putter is a larger mallet design with numerous alignment aids on it. The idea is to help you line up your putt better and have a better chance at perfection on the must-make short putts.
  • Accessories: Complete sets almost always come with a golf bag in either a stand bag or cart bag design. They will sometimes also include head covers.

What to Consider When Buying a Women’s Complete Set

There are a few things you should ask yourself before looking at what complete set is best for you and your game. The following are some of those key items.

What Is Your Experience Level?

One of the first things you should consider is your current experience level within the game. Either a newer golfer or a higher-handicap player can use most women's complete sets. More experienced or better players are much better off purchasing their clubs individually. They should choose from a manufacturer's premium offerings.

How Often Do You Play?

How much you play is an important factor in determining which complete set may be best for you. This consideration is important. It's key if your purchase will be budget-driven. If you are only going to play a few times a year, making a more expensive investment may not be worth it.

What Do You Want in Your Complete Set?

Complete sets are not cookie-cutter from brand to brand. The specific clubs that are included in your set will vary by brand. Even within a brand, you may have several options for the clubs and accessories included in a set.

What is Your Budget?

The pricing of a complete set can fluctuate from brand to brand. You could spend anywhere from $500 or less for a basic, lesser-known brand offering. Or you could spend as much as $3,000 for a premium set.

How to Choose the Right Complete Set For You

Every golfer is different. Coming to the right decision on which complete set might be best for you does not have to be a daunting task. In this article, I’ve defined what is meant by a complete set. I shared with you the components that make up a complete set and the features of them. I also shared some of my top three picks for a women’s complete set.

One of the last things I wanted to share with you is to help you figure out which of the three recommended sets might work for you.

If you are…

A Newbie and Beginner Female Golfer

If you are a complete beginner or have not been playing all that long, my top consideration for you would be the Cleveland 2023 Women's Bloom Complete Golf Set. This set includes a good amount of clubs and accessories for a very reasonable price. The clubs themselves are good quality but not top of the line, thus the cheaper price point.

Two other options for the newbie include:

A Middle-Handicap Female Golfer

If you are a frequent female golfer who plays to a handicap anywhere from 20 and down to a 12 or so, my top pick for you is the TaylorMade Women's RBZ Speedlite Set. This set has more technology in the clubs themselves — not top of the line but a very solid choice nonetheless. The price point is almost double that of the Cleveland 2023 Women's Bloom Complete Golf Set, but it is worth it for a player looking for a little more.

Two other options for the middle-handicap female golfer include:

A Low Middle to High Single-Digit Handicap Female Golfer

In general, complete sets are not usually the first pick for better players. However, there are some good options out there. If you are a frequent female golfer who plays to a handicap of anywhere from 12 and down to a 7 or so, my top consideration for you would be the Callaway REVA 11-Piece Complete Golf Set. This set has a good amount of technology that is very similar to top-tier Callaway options.

Two other options for the more advanced female player include:
