The Curated Take

4.7/5

The Outdoor Research Women's Carbide Sensor Gloves are an excellent choice for anyone seeking comfortable, durable winter gloves suitable for various conditions. These gloves offer effective waterproofing, with the leather portion requiring occasional reconditioning to maintain its waterproof layer. They are durable, lasting multiple seasons of daily use without fraying or seam issues. Comfort is a highlight due to the soft interior fabric that remains comfortable even when wet. They provide warmth and ease of movement, making them suitable for backcountry touring and resort riding.

Ideal for
  • Length of the cuff is long enough to prevent snow from getting in
  • Soft and comfy liner that doesn't get clammy with wet hands
  • Great durability
Not ideal for
  • No pockets in the glove for hand warmers
  • Leather needs to be conditioned for it to maintain its waterproofness
  • Band to tighten material around the wrist often loosens with vibration

Expert Reviews of the Outdoor Research Women's Carbide Sensor Gloves

Kiana D These are my go-to gloves for almost all conditions, rain or shine. But since they do not have a pocket for hand-warmers, I often opt for a warmer pair. I recommend this product to anyone looking for fingered winter gloves. They are super comfortable, and I have worn them nearly every day for the past five winters. Inside is a soft material that doesn't bind terribly if I accidentally get wet hands. The length of the cuff and the ability to cinch it down are effective for keeping snow out. However, I sometimes notice that the band around the wrist will loosen while riding down the mountain. Additionally, since they are leather, they need to be reproofed to maintain their waterproof layer.

Review Ratings

Waterproofing

4/5
Kiana D gave 4 of 5 stars. These gloves feature a mostly leather hand, while the cuff is fabric. I have never had water seep through the cuff or had to reproof the material to maintain the waterproof layer. The leather part of the gloves does require more work. For these to stay dry, I must condition the leather often. When I fall behind on re-conditioning, these gloves will get wet, but when I keep up with them, they stay dry even in pouring rain.

Durability

5/5
Kiana D gave 5 of 5 stars. I have owned these gloves for three Alaskan winters and used them nearly daily. They have lasted longer than any other pair of gloves I have owned and still work just as well as the day I bought them. All seams have held up, and no fabric is fraying.

Comfort

5/5
Kiana D gave 5 of 5 stars. These gloves are very comfortable for any day. The soft interior fabric is comfortable even if it gets wet. The wristband is not too tight but sturdy enough to stay in place. There is also a way to cinch the wrist so that there is no loose material flapping in the wind.

Warmth

5/5
Kiana D gave 5 of 5 stars. These gloves stay warm even on the coldest days. Even when I have gotten snow inside my gloves, and they are wet, these have kept my hands toasty warm. The inside liner is a soft fleece material that offers warmth. However, the glove has no pocket to hold a hand warmer like some other gloves.

Ease of Movement

5/5
Kiana D gave 5 of 5 stars. These gloves are very easy to move in and almost make me forget that I'm wearing gloves. They do not restrict any movement. They are also the easiest gloves I have had to remove and put back on. Whether touring up a mountain or riding resort laps all day, these gloves will not get in someone's way.

Breathability

4/5
Kiana D gave 4 of 5 stars. Although the outer material is leather, these gloves breathe surprisingly well. My hands never get too clammy or suffocated in these gloves. If someone gets too hot, they can loosen the wrist strap and cuff to let in fresh air. I would use these on sunny and slushy or single-digit days.

FAQs

Why did you choose this product?

Kiana D I chose these gloves because they have a long powder cuff, a way to attach to my wrist, and a soft material on the thumb to help wipe goggles. Another reason that these gloves stood out to me is because the leather is easy to maintain, so they have a longer life. These features make these my go-to gloves for any day from rain to powder.

What is the value for the money versus other options?

Kiana D These gloves are affordable in terms of quality and durability. They have all the features someone would be looking for in a higher-end glove, but at a lower price point than Hestra, for example (which costs twice as much).
