The Curated Take
4.3/5
The K2 Recon 120 BOA Ski Boots are ideal for advanced resort skiers seeking a blend of comfort, adjustability, and performance. They feature a BOA midfoot system for precise fit adjustments, a lightweight design, and impressive durability, including waterproofing. With a 120 flex supported by a carbon spine and enhanced power straps, they offer responsive control, albeit slightly softer than traditional buckled boots. The wider heel and external J-bars provide a secure fit, though they run a bit large and aren't compatible with AT bindings. These are excellent for skiers prioritizing lightweight, durable boots with easy adjustability.

Expert Reviews of the K2 Recon 120 BOA Ski Boots
Leo Cocchiara The K2 Recon 120 BOA ushers in the next generation of adjustability and comfort to a high-performance resort boot. For the skeptics out there, yes, this boot is very durable. Skiers won't break the BOA any sooner than they would bust a buckle. With the dial's ability to pop off under extreme duress and pop right back on, it's probably more durable than most buckles when taking an extreme impact.
On top of that, it is generously comfortable. I would say it runs a little more generously than a typical medium-volume boot, so if someone's borderline, they should consider sizing down. Overall, it more than delivers on its promise of being a lighter weight, more easily adjustable, and perfectly capable advanced-level boot.

Review Ratings
Responsiveness
5/5
Leo Cocchiara gave 5 of 5 stars. Not only is the midfoot so easy to get the ideal amount of pressure on, but skiers also get ratcheting power straps that give them a great amount of rebound in the shin. There's no need for booster straps.
Versatility
4/5
Leo Cocchiara gave 4 of 5 stars. They can do anything on the resort. It doesn't get much more versatile than that outside of touring capabilities, and honestly, they'd still be decent if I rustled up a pair of old frame bindings or daymakers. They're also versatile because larger, stronger, high-level intermediate and expert skiers can access them.
Claimed Stiffness Accuracy
4/5
Leo Cocchiara gave 4 of 5 stars. The 120 flex is definitely there. Due to the carbon spine, enhanced power strap, and nicely appointed cuff, skiers get plenty of gas pedal from the 120 flex. Even when comparing it side by side to the buckle version and other 120s, the boot feels really well dialed in.
Heel Hold
4/5
Leo Cocchiara gave 4 of 5 stars. The wider heel is great if someone has chunky, fat heels and collapsed arches like me. But K2 adds external J-bars into the liner to keep me locked in where it counts. The best part of the Recons is the honeycomb heel inserts in the boot board, so I can choose between a springy or stiff feel underfoot.
Weight
4/5
Leo Cocchiara gave 4 of 5 stars. I could easily wear these boots bell-to-bell and still have them on for a quick round in the bar. The lightweight shell with the power fit liner feels cushy and doesn't weigh my feet down when I'm in for a long walk from the lot.
Waterproofing
5/5
Leo Cocchiara gave 5 of 5 stars. A better fit in the midfoot always equals a better seal against the elements. Due to the way the cable cinches the upper across the instep, pressure is evenly distributed along the whole barrier between layers, where sometimes traditional boots tend to bulge between buckles, especially in ill-fitting boots.
FAQs

Leo Cocchiara I remember being pleasantly surprised the first time I tried them on. I got to spend a good 30 minutes just going through all the features and feeling out the nuances, and I was really impressed.
