The Curated Take
4.3/5
The Atomic Backland 107 Skis are great for experienced skiers who prioritize backcountry touring, offering excellent float in powder and playful maneuverability. With a 107mm waist, they're designed for soft snow, providing excellent flotation and lightweight construction for efficient uphill travel. The skis feature HRZN technology for smoother transitions in deep snow, but their wider underfoot and lightweight can limit carving ability and stability at high speeds on hardpack. They're durable, versatile for powder days in or out of the resort, and ideal for skiers looking for a playful, all-around ski that excels in backcountry conditions.

Expert Reviews of the Atomic Backland 107 Skis
Skyler Fussner This ski is a great, playful backcountry and powder ski. I use it touring and in resort on good powder days. It isn’t stiff, so it gives me playfulness while in the snow. I love it for floating on top of fresh powder since it’s one of my bigger skis. Since it’s wider, I find I can’t turn or set an edge as well. Overall, it's a must-add to one's quiver for a bigger ski.
Adam M The Atomic Backland 107 is an excellent ski for the backcountry. It's super lightweight, so I can do tons of laps without tiring too fast from slogging a heavy ski. It has a super nice float in powder because of the side profile. It spoons up in the tip, helping to pull the tips up. The HRZN technology on the tips helps those tips pull out of the deep turns and bounce me into the next face shot.

Turn Ease
4/5
Adam M gave 4 of 5 stars. These skis are excellent backcountry weapons. They turn very nice in soft snow. I don't need to force them or push them hard to turn. The spooned tips (HRZN technology) help pull the tips back up to the surface and transition me to the next turn when the tips dip under soft snow.
Playfulness
5/5
Skyler Fussner gave 5 of 5 stars. The combination of camber and rocker on these skis allows for a playful and light ski that responds to my every move. They maneuver light and quick and float through the snow. They can absorb impact and respond to shifts in skiing style. They also have enough flex to give me feedback where I want it.
Adam M gave 4 of 5 stars. These skis are an absolute treat to ski. They are so light and nimble that I barely notice them on my feet. They bounce from turn to turn very well and flex where they are needed. They are backcountry-specific skis, so I don't really flex them at all; I keep it mellow and in the snow.
Durability
5/5
Skyler Fussner gave 5 of 5 stars. These skis have been used in backcountry and out-of-bounds terrain, as well as in resorts. I have skied in early to late season conditions in the trees through rocks, etc. These skis have withstood hard skiing, rocks, trees, ice, and almost any other element I have skied in. No ski is bulletproof, and things happen, but these have really held up through various terrain, and I ski my skis hard.
Adam M gave 4 of 5 stars. These skis seem to be very well-built. Even though they are very lightweight, they still feel like a solid ski. I have not had any issues with the topsheets peeling up or chipping. I have skied over several rocks (which is pretty typical to find in the backcountry), and what felt like a core shot turned out to be small scuffs on the base. They are surprisingly resistant to deep shots on the bases. I'm impressed.
High Speed Stability
4/5
Skyler Fussner gave 4 of 5 stars. The Backland 107 is designed to be lightweight and playful. A wide underfoot makes them more specific to powder, touring, and all-mountain. Regarding the high-speed stability, the lightweight nature of the ski and its softer build give me more feedback the faster I go. I must work harder to control these skis at high speeds. They are definitely skiable but not intended to be used as a high-speed carving ski.
Adam M gave 3 of 5 stars. One time, some friends and I went touring off the back side of our local resort. We parked in the resort parking, took the lift up to the top, then went through the gates and down the backside into the backcountry. We then did some skinning laps and returned to the top of the mountain, where we skied down through the resort to the parking lot. These skis were excellent everywhere out of bounds but inbounds, they were a little scary. Because they are so light, they get super chattery at high speeds on hardpack.
Carving
3/5
Skyler Fussner gave 3 of 5 stars. This is not intended to be used as a carving ski, nor would I recommend it as one. With the 107 underfoot and mild camber, I have to intentionally lean and set an edge on these skis versus naturally just being able to set my edge.
Versatility
4/5
Skyler Fussner gave 4 of 5 stars. I have used these skis in every aspect of terrain that there is. These perform best touring in the backcountry since they are designed for that. They are a classic, versatile skinning ski that combines durability and lightweight maneuverability. They can also be used in the resort as an all-mountain ski for pretty much any run and will still give me maneuverability.
Adam M gave 3 of 5 stars. This ski is not the most versatile ski I have in my quiver. It's an excellent ski, but it isn't great everywhere. If skiers were to ski it inbounds on a day with tons of uniform snow, meaning powder that has yet to be skied out, they would excel. That's why they excel in the backcountry: uniform snow.
Flotation
5/5
Skyler Fussner gave 5 of 5 stars. These skis have excellent float in snowy/powdery conditions. The width, in conjunction with the rocker, allows me to sit back and float on top of a fresh dusting of snow or 2' of fresh powder. I have yet to take these skis out touring or on a powder day and regret it. I stay on top of the snow and can ski in those conditions aggressively.
Adam M gave 5 of 5 stars. The profile is ideal for a nice floaty feeling. The 107 waist is great to keep me in the snow where I enjoy it, but not too far down that it bogs my legs back. The spooned tips (HRZN technology) really help to pull those tips out of those deep powder turns and bounce me into the next turn.
FAQs
What do you love about this product?
Skyler Fussner I really enjoy skiing the Backlands for a variety of reasons. Firstly, for a larger ski, they are maneuverable, lightweight, and have just the right amount of camber. They float over powder like a dream, and I enjoy touring with them. They are for a more advanced to expert skier, with backcountry terrain and touring being the intended use. If the day calls for it, I can still set an edge in the resort even on the 107 underfoot.
Adam M I love these skis because they are the ideal weapon for the backcountry. They ski very nicely on uniform snow, providing plenty of float while still being lightweight, helping to make uphill travel a breeze.
What was your favorite moment with this gear?
Adam M I had a big day in the backcountry last year where the weather and avalanche conditions were just right for a group of us to get out and do Logan Peak. Our day was about 8,000 vertical feet, and I felt great. The Backlands took on all types of snow and skied super well while still being light enough to put in the bigger day.
Why did you choose this product?
Skyler Fussner I chose this item based on another Curated recommendation and reading online reviews. I was really looking for a larger backcountry ski for uphill and touring. I looked at the underfoot, stiffness, and the rock of the ski and the weight compared to other brands, and this ski won out.
Adam M I chose this product because I wanted a lightweight touring ski that would float. I saw many people on lightweight skis around 85-95mm at the waist. I figured if I was going to work for two hours uphill, I wanted to make sure my downhill was extremely fun.
What is the value for the money versus other options?
Skyler Fussner The value of the skis is definitely there. The Backlands are more expensive than other comparable skis out there. Keeping that in mind, I knew from other people and reviews on this ski the maneuverability, design, and materials aimed at both performance and longevity. My skis have held up well throughout all of the hours I have put on them.
