In the world of skiing, the K2 Mindbender 90C Skis and the Atomic Maverick 88 Ti Skis are two top contenders for the 2024 season. Both skis are designed for intermediate to advanced skiers, offering a blend of performance, versatility, and fun. The K2 Mindbender 90C is a light, easy-to-ski option that's great on groomers and off-trail, while the Atomic Maverick 88 Ti is a powerful, stable ski that excels on groomers and can handle off-piste adventures. Both skis are praised for their carving abilities, edge hold, and overall performance. However, the K2 Mindbender 90C is more forgiving and better suited for lighter skiers, while the Atomic Maverick 88 Ti is stiffer and better for hard-charging skiers. In the end, the choice between these two skis comes down to personal preference and skiing style.

The K2 Mindbender 90C Skis are marketed as an intermediate level ski that's light, good on groomers, and easy to ski. It’s wide enough to get off trail a little bit, too. The Mindbender 90C is part of K2's Mindbender collection, but what sets it apart is its use of carbon instead of titanal metal to stiffen the ski. This makes the ski lighter, which can be easier on the legs, especially for lighter skiers who don’t need a ski with metal in it.

The overall impression of the ski is positive. It's light with the carbon in it versus the titanal of the “Ti” Mindbenders. It's a fun, cool looking, high quality ski that has a really nice top sheet feel. It works really well for what K2 claims, actually. The carbon in the ski gives it some stiffness and solid edge grip but does keep the ski lighter. They're not a super aggressive ski, but they're very confidence inspiring.

The ski performs well in carving, freestyle, and freeride categories. It's great on the groomers and is quick edge to edge. It's definitely a more groomer focused ski at 90 underfoot. The edge hold is medium to slightly stiffer, maybe like a seven out of ten in the stiffness factor. But, they had great edge grip. They didn't quite have the edge grip of the Mindbender with metal in it. But, again, for a lighter skier, these would be more than apt and they'd be a lot less effort on your legs.

I really like it! It's light with the carbon in it versus the titanal of the “Ti” Mindbenders. Overall, it's a fun, cool looking, high quality ski that has a really nice top sheet feel.

The Atomic Maverick 88 Ti Skis are a narrow directional all-mountain ski that is perfect for those who like to spend a fair amount of their time carving on groomers. The ski has a 19.5-meter turn radius, which is a fairly big turn radius for a frontside ski, so it's really ideal for people who like to make medium turns. But, for a ski with that turn radius, it was found to be pretty maneuverable for shorter turns as well.

The ski is designed with a wood core combined with layers of titanal metal, which enhances their stability, dampness, and energy transmission. This construction provides a solid and responsive ride, allowing for strong edge hold and confidence at higher speeds. The all mountain rocker profile, with full tip rocker, a touch of tail rocker, and camber underfoot, offers versatility and performance. The tip rocker enhances handling off-piste conditions and eases turn initiation, while the camber underfoot provides excellent edge grip and control on groomed runs and hardpacked snow.

The Maverick 88 Ti skis offer precise and responsive carving capabilities on groomed terrain. They are known for their stability and edge hold, allowing for powerful and controlled turns. Additionally, they perform well in moguls and variable snow, providing a smooth and confident ride.

On my first run, I took this ski down a trail that had about half an inch of fresh snow over a fairly hard surface that had refrozen from the night before. I was really impressed when I was trying to hold an edge on that surface. The ski was able to hold an edge, but it was also capable of smearing turns very well, which isn't always true of a ski this narrow.
