Expert Reviews of the Rossignol Rallybird 92 Open Skis

The Rossignol Rallybird is exactly the ski most intermediate to advanced women seek. It's a classic all-mountain shape that encourages good carving technique with a confident edge hold in all conditions. It's an ideal level of stiffness to make developing in the moguls and trees fun and approachable. Best of all, it has plenty of surface area to take a lot of work out of a powder day, so skiers can just enjoy the sensation of floating through fresh stashes.
The Rossignol Rallybird is like the Toyota Corolla of women's all-mountain skis. Nothing too fancy, but a heck of a reliable, intuitive ride. It's loved by many because of its versatility, which comes from its ease of use, yet a high speed limit before encountering chatter. The ski is great for intermediates up to experts. However, there are better skis to take into deep powder or a chunky, crusty back bowl. But it's great for those popping in and out of the trees and bumping off the side of the trail and then back on the groomers to carve some turns.

Turn Ease

5/5
gave 5 of 5 stars. The Rallybird's shape is exceptionally well done for making turns of all shapes and sizes. The tip rocker allows easy catch-free turn initiation with just the right progression that skiers can still press into the tip for a more aggressive carve or easy midfoot pivots. The camber underfoot into the more traditionally square tail delivers a confident grip while still having just enough tail rocker release to transition into the next turn easily.
gave 4 of 5 stars. The Rossignol Rallybird 92 makes turning easy due to the long rocker in the tip and lightweight paulownia wood construction. It also has pretty forgiving tails that don't make me feel locked into my turns. It's made for skiers who are already cruising greens and blues and are ready for something with a little more power without compromising on maneuverability and ease of use.

Playfulness

4/5
gave 4 of 5 stars. Everyone has a bit of a different definition when it comes to the word "playfulness" in skiing. The Rallybird is more of a classic all-mountain profile, but it's not an uptight ski. It's playful in the sense that it's fairly forgiving on the stiffness spectrum, very poppy and responsive, happy to take on little side hits, and easy to smear and side slip.
gave 3 of 5 stars. Soft flexing skis can sometimes be considered playful. The Rallybird is a fairly stiff ski, so it's not necessarily a really playful ski. However, it's great for playing on the mountain if skiers want to stay in control and feel comfortable exploring a wide variety of terrain and snow conditions.

Durability

5/5
gave 5 of 5 stars. The Rossignol Rallybird 92 features the same quality construction that Rossignol has come to be known for. The edge wraps all the way around the tip of the ski, protecting it. The topsheet is made of durable material that doesn't easily get scratched.

High Speed Stability

4/5
gave 4 of 5 stars. It's smooth and stable at high speeds in variable conditions, but it likes to turn more than to stay in a straight line. The damp tech and air tip techs spread throughout the ski meet up well to create a smooth and stable feeling, but the shape profile of this ski encourages getting those edges moving side to side when I'm pushing the limits.
gave 4 of 5 stars. The Rallybird 92 is stable enough for the speeds that most advanced skiers hit. It's reinforced with a small amount of titanal, which reduces chatter at speed and adds power to turns. As a pretty lightweight former racer, I haven't encountered any problems with the Rallybird's high-speed stability.

Carving

5/5
gave 5 of 5 stars. True carving turns are a beautiful thing. It starts with engaging the turn of the downslope ski through the hip with strong forward pressure on the inside edge, maintaining pressure through the arch of the turn radius, and smoothly rolling the edge over into the next turn while maintaining pressure. Mastering carving turns is something every skier should aspire to, but not everyone skis enough to warrant having a dedicated carving ski in their quiver. The Rallybird does a great job of giving us a 90+-waisted ski that can still lay down a perfect carve.
gave 4 of 5 stars. The Rossignol Rallybird 92 is surprisingly fun to carve on for an all-mountain ski. At 92 underfoot, it's responsive enough for quick turns, and it doesn't make me work especially hard to get it up on edge. The tails are also stiff enough that I can hold onto those longer turns.

Flotation

3/5
gave 4 of 5 stars. It's really hard to put a number on the flotation of a ski. The Rallybird is a progressive and aspirational ski designed to meet skiers of a certain level where they are, no matter the conditions. Intermediate to advanced-level skiers will find this ski much easier to handle in powder than the basic rentals or hand-me-downs they've been working with but still designed to cater to trail skiing versus a more expert-level freeride ski.
gave 2 of 5 stars. The Rossignol Rallybird 92 isn't a powder ski but can hold its own in a few fresh inches of snow. That's what makes it a great one-ski quiver. It's narrow enough to be nimble and quick edge to edge but wide enough to be considered an all-mountain ski. It's a great ski to be on if I'm in the trees in some skied-out chunder or if I'm out there on a snowy day, trying to navigate some freshies on the trail.

Versatility

4/5
gave 4 of 5 stars. The Rallybird lands squarely in the all-mountain zone that is appropriate and enjoyable for just about every intermediate to advanced skier looking for one ski they can have fun on, no matter what the conditions or terrain looks like. It only finds its limits on the more extreme ends of the spectrum of powder float, freestyle, or top speeds.
gave 4 of 5 stars. Versatility is one of the primary advantages of the Rossignol Rallybird 92. It's great for a wide range of skiers, from intermediates who want some room to grow to expert-level skiers who want a reliable, straightforward ski that can do a little bit of everything well.

FAQs

What do you love about this product?

I love the quality of the construction of this ski. It blends a classic all-mountain personality with luxurious tech to deliver an impressively smooth and capable ride.
The Rossignol Rallybird 92 is reliable and versatile. It is a good option for a wide variety of skiers, from intermediates looking to explore the whole mountain to expert skiers wanting an all-mountain ski that will support them and help them feel confident and stable.

What was your favorite moment with this gear?

My favorite moment on the Rallybird 92s was the first day that I skied them. It was an icy, cruddy day at Powder Mountain in Utah, and I was demoing several different pieces of gear. Many of the skis weren't holding up to the conditions. But the Rossignol Rallybird 92 really boosted my confidence because of its edge grip, dampness, and ease of turning.

Why did you choose this product?

The Rallybird is hard not to choose when I put it against its peers in the category. It has a great personality for a wide range of skiers, is packed with industry-leading tech, and is attractive in its aesthetic. It's hard to find any sort of negative with it, honestly.

What is the value for the money versus other options?

The Rallybird 92's price point is pretty reasonable for its construction. It's a major step up from the Rallybird 90 Pro, which comes with bindings and more budget-friendly core material. However, with the Rallybird 92, skiers are getting a high-end paulownia wood core, which is lightweight and responsive, and better stability at speed.
