If you plan to walk 18 holes carrying or using a push cart, you want to make sure your bag is lightweight above all else. There is nothing worse than getting fatigued during the round from a bag that is simply too heavy.

Trust me, I know from experience and want to help you avoid this to play your best golf. When you’re tired, you won’t swing as fast or hit it as far, and you open yourself up to injury as well.

For the longest time, golf was a walking-only sport, but the invention of the cart changed everything. It made it easier to zoom around the course and speed up the pace of play, overall making the game more fun for some players.

But a lot of golfers still prefer to walk versus ride, and it’s fantastic exercise. Since most courses are 6,000+ yards, this is typically four miles or longer. When I walk, it’s not uncommon to get more than 15,000 steps per day on my Fitbit!

7 Best Lightweight Golf Bags

When it comes to finding the best golf bags, there are four main types: cart bags, hybrid bags, stand bags (carry bags), and Sunday bags. Here’s a quick description of each:

• Cart bags: Meant to be used with a motorized golf cart. Provides the most storage and protection for your clubs, but are typically the heaviest bags. They also don’t have dual straps to make it easier to carry your bag.
• Hybrid bags: Can be used on a cart or push cart or carried, but they’re typically a few pounds heavier than stand bags. They do offer more storage than carry bags, have a stand, and oftentimes have 14-way club dividers for better golf club protection.
• Stand bags: These bags have a stand and are much lighter than hybrid bags. They don’t have as much storage or compartments, but they make pushing or carrying your clubs easier during the round.
• Sunday bags: These bags are smaller than stand bags and super lightweight. But some of them are so small they don’t allow all 14 clubs to fit. Instead, they’re better for twilight rounds with half your set or used in practice.

Now that you have an overview of the types of bags, let’s get into some options for your golf season. Please note that each lightweight stand bag has a matching rain hood as well, in case you're playing in tough weather conditions.

1. Ogio 2024 Fuse 4 Stand Bag

Ogio makes some incredible golf bags for people who love to walk the course. At only 4.8lbs, it’s one of the lightest options available from any brand.

Despite its lightweight design, it has tons of room for everything you need on the course. It has four full-length dividers and six front-facing pockets. This includes a water bottle pocket with a drainage port and a fleece-lined valuables pocket. It also has an umbrella holder and Velcro glove patch so you can rotate gloves with ease during the round.

Other accessories include a towel loop, double shoulder straps with a balancing system, and a pen holder. The ball pocket detaches if you want to embroider it with a logo or name. Plus, it’s available in a ton of bright colors to make your bag stand out on the golf course.

2. Titleist Players 5 Stand Bag

Titleist makes everything in golf, from their top-rated Pro V1x golf balls to every club you need. I’ve used a variety of their irons, woods, and wedges over the years and have nothing but good things to say. Not to mention, I love their bags, even if they’re on the more expensive side, as they’re built to last.

The new Titleist Players 5 stand bag is one of the lightest I could find — only 4.3lbs! But it still has tons of storage with seven pockets. This lightweight bag also has external lined drink sleeves for easy access while walking, a premium double strap, and Velcro glove patches.

I’ve used an older version of this bag in the past and had nothing but good things to say about it. The material is high quality and extremely durable. If you’re looking for even more space, check out the Titleist Hybrid 14 bag instead (but it is heavier).

3. Callaway 2023 Hyperlite Zero Stand Bag

Like Titleist, Callaway has no shortage of golf bags, from cart to hybrid and stand bags. If you’re looking for the lightest option that is easy to carry or push, you can’t beat the Hyperlite Zero. It's on the more expensive side, but it’s worth it because of its heavy-duty construction and other features. Also, it’s the lightest bag in the Callaway lineup at only 3lbs.

Despite being the lightest full-size bag in the lineup, it has tons of features, including a comfort hip pad, four-way top dividers, and updated ripstop material for incredible durability. It's available in a dozen color combos to find one that matches your unique style.

4. TaylorMade 2022 FlexTech Lite Stand Bag

If you’re a TaylorMade fan, they have a lightweight bag to help your game. The 2022 FlexTech Lite is incredibly transportable at only 3.9lbs.

5. Sun Mountain 2022 4.5 LS Stand Bag

Sun Mountain is another popular name in the golf bag world and known for making lightweight stand bags. The 4.5 LS model is just that as it weighs 4.7lbs, making it one of the easiest bags to carry for a full round of golf.

What’s awesome about this bag is that it has a 14-way divider, which is pretty rare for lightweight stand bags. This gives each club and shaft maximum protection (which is more common with a hybrid bag). It also has a cart-friendly strap if you decide to hop in a motorized cart.

Other highlights include their E-Z Lite Dual Strap System, a comfort hip pad, and eight water-resistant pockets. These include a large apparel pocket, accessory pocket, hydration pouch, rangefinder pocket, and more. This lightweight bag is available in a variety of colors so you can find any type of style.

6. Ram Golf Lightweight Stand / Carry Sunday Bag

If you want to save money and are looking for a Sunday bag (one that has room for about 10 clubs), this one from Ram is hard to beat. At under $100, it’s an excellent choice for long practice sessions or playing short executive-style golf courses.

It has a stand with auto pop-up legs, unlike some Sunday bags that don’t, forcing you to lay the bag down on the grass. It has two full-length dividers to keep clubs organized and several pockets as well, including a front ball pocket, a velour-lined valuables pocket, and an extra side pocket for your rangefinder or other golf gear.

This bag has a dual-strap system, so it’s easy to carry it during the round. It also has a molded hip pad as well for ultimate comfort on the course. It’s a little heavier at 6lbs but a fantastic deal and available in five different colors.

7. TaylorMade 2023 Cart Lite Bag

As mentioned in the introduction, most cart bags are heavy. But things have changed in recent years — some golf brands are making larger cart bags lighter than ever. That’s why I had to include the TaylorMade Cart Lite bag on this list.

It’s incredibly portable at only 5.5lbs, which is lighter than almost any other cart bag, but still provides tons of storage, which is one of the reasons so many players prefer these types of bags. With eight pockets, there is plenty of space for all the clothing and accessories you might need during the round.

Also, it looks clean with the all-white design. I’d avoid using it in winter, muddy conditions, but it’s great for warm summer days on the course.

Another advantage this golf bag has over most of the others on this list is its 14-way top divider. This bag has a slot for each club so you can keep everything organized and protect your shafts.

While it doesn’t have a stand, it’s an excellent lightweight option that you can use with a push cart as well. Well done, TaylorMade, for making such a cart bag under six pounds!

The right golf bag can make a big difference in your game by helping you stay energized and not get fatigued later in the round. Don’t buy a bag that is too heavy — it can strain your shoulders or back and limit your potential on the back nine. Also, a bigger bag is harder to travel with and store in your car.

If you plan to walk with the bag on your back, make sure to prioritize a lightweight version above all else. If you plan to use with a push cart sometimes, you can get one that is slightly heavier so you have more storage space too.
