The Curated Take

4.3/5

The Lange Shadow 115 W LV GW Ski Boots are a great progression tool for beginner to advanced skiers, particularly those with narrow feet and heels. The boots are designed to assist with maintaining forward pressure, featuring dual-pivot technology for consistent flex and a suspension blade for fine-tuning flex. While not as energetic as some other boots, they offer good control and are lightweight. The boots excel in heel hold and waterproofing but may not suit expert skiers seeking more progressive flex. Overall, the Lange Shadow 115 W LV GW is ideal for skiers improving their form and control on the slopes.

Expert Reviews of the Lange Shadow 115 W LV GW Ski Boots

The Lange Shadow is made up of several brand-new technologies that assist with achieving and maintaining forward pressure in the boot. The dual-pivot technology makes the flex of the boot more consistent through the flexing motion. That makes it ideal for beginner-advanced skiers who are working on their form or want to make it a little easier to pressure the front of the boot. The higher flex still feels stiff, but skiers can push them a little farther than other boots because of the consistent flex. The suspension blade also has interchangeable parts to fine-tune the boot flex. This boot's toe dam has also been updated, giving skiers more coverage from water and snow sneaking into it. Expert skiers who are great at maintaining forward pressure and prefer to have a more progressive flex might want to consider a more traditional boot. Fit-wise, the Shadow is great for skiers with narrow feet, particularly heels. There's more room in the instep than many other brands so if that's been a problem in other boots, this is a good solution. The toe box is pretty average for a low-volume (LV) boot. The Shadow is not as narrow as the Salomon S/Max but narrower than the K2 Anthem LV.

Review Ratings

Heel Hold

5/5
gave 5 of 5 stars. The Shadow 115 LV has that classic Lange heel pocket with excellent hold. The liner holds my heel in place, giving me maximum hold and control of my skis. If skiers find that the padding around the Achilles is too much for the shape of their heel, they can always heat mold the liner.

Weight

4/5
gave 4 of 5 stars. The Lange Shadow 115 is surprisingly light compared to the previous RX 110. Even with the added features, the suspension blade and the dual-pivot tech don't seem to add a significant amount of weight to the boot. Due to the GripWalk and lightweight design, they're great for walking around in even without walk mode.

Waterproofing

5/5
gave 5 of 5 stars. The Lange Shadows' waterproofing seems to be highly effective. The new toe dam added does a great job of keeping water and snow out of the boot. It's a longer piece of rubber that runs almost up the forefoot of the boot, where the plastic overlaps.

Durability

4/5
gave 4 of 5 stars. So far, cosmetic damage is the only concern with the Lange Shadow. While I haven't been using them for long, the GripWalk means I don't have to worry about the bottom of my boots getting worn down. From what I can tell, the suspension blade is very strong and durable.

Responsiveness

3/5
gave 3 of 5 stars. The Lange Shadow 115 has great lateral responsiveness, so I feel really confident edge to edge. However, the rebound coming out of turns feels a little sluggish when doing quick slalom turns. Because of that, I wouldn't recommend it for skiers who already ski aggressively and have a lot of forward pressure in their boots.

Versatility

4/5
gave 4 of 5 stars. The boot is ideal for skiing anywhere on the mountain, although it is not backcountry capable. It's lightweight and has GripWalk, so if someone is bootpacking a ridge or just walking to the car, they can be confident that their feet won't cause problems.

Walk Mode

4/5
gave 4 of 5 stars. There's no walk mode on this boot because it would not work with the suspension blade and dual-pivot tech and would compromise the boot's flex. So, while this boot has a fixed cuff, it's surprisingly comfortable to walk around in, whether commuting to and from the car or teaching a lesson on the bunny hill.

Claimed Stiffness Accuracy

5/5
gave 5 of 5 stars. The flex of this boot does live up to its name. It's stiffer for aggressive skiers, but it also feels like the flex is "longer" than other 115s. Skiers can push the shin farther than other boots and easily maintain that forward stance. It's ideal for heavier/stronger advanced skiers who are working on dialing in their form.

FAQs

What do you love about this product?

The Lange Shadow is a great tool for skiers who want to progress in their form, body position, and control of their skis. The dual-pivot tech and suspension blade system help skiers maintain forward pressure in their boots, which translates to better control of their skis. I also love this boot's features, including the GripWalk, heat-moldable liner, and the ability to adjust the flex.

What was your favorite moment with this gear?

My favorite moment in these boots was skiing with my 3-year-old cousin and her friend. Usually, when I'm skiing with her, my feet tend to get cold from standing around a lot, but that didn't happen with the Lange Shadow. I had comfy, warm feet all day and got to stay out there and help her progress. That was the first day she started skiing without a leash and got comfortable stopping on her own.

Why did you choose this product?

I chose this product for its fit attributes. I went with the 115 because I am an aggressive skier with narrow feet. I also have a high instep, and Langes have always been accommodating in that area. On top of the fit aspects, I was really excited to try the new technology that the Shadows bring to the ski industry.
