The 2021 PGA Tour season has officially ended! Patrick Cantlay took home his 4th victory of the season and largest payday to date. In winning the Tour Championship, Cantlay also took home the season-long points race and the $15 million dollar FedEx Cup prize. Claiming his second tournament in consecutive weeks, Cantlay lived up to his newly minted nickname “Patty Ice” and made a solid birdie on the 72nd hole of competition to edge out Jon Rahm by 2 strokes. A large part of Patrick’s success in 2021 came from his putter (more on that below!).

Cantlay led the field in putting at the Tour Championship and set a PGA Tour record at the BMW Championship the week before with his trusted flatstick, with +14.58 strokes gained putting for the week. Strokes gained can be a bit of a confusing metric, but it basically measures how an individual performs from a baseline distance against the rest of the field. Just how good was Cantlay’s putting? Well, he made 21 putts over 10 feet in length during the BMW Championship, and his next closest competitor that week was at 16 putts. That means he gained at least 50 feet more on putts than the second-best putter in the field.

In winning the FedEx Cup, as well as the Tour Championship, Cantlay also cemented his standing on the U.S. Ryder Cup team as the sixth automatically qualified. He will be joining Collin Morikawa, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, and Justin Thomas on the team. Captain Steve Striker will be making his six captain’s picks to round out the rest of the team on Wednesday, September 8th, two weeks before the event is scheduled to start. Keep your eyes peeled! Team U.S. takes on Team Europe September 24th through the 26th at Whistling Straights in Haven, Wisconsin, but more on that later.

It’s been a great year for the Tour. The Master’s had a memorable finish. Don’t forget Phil Mickelson become the oldest major champion ever at Kiawah Island! Of course, Jon Rahm won the U.S. Open in dramatic style at Torrey Pines! Now Patrick Cantlay has claimed the season-long race for the FedEx.

Don’t be sad that the big golf events are almost over for the year—the Master’s is only 30 weeks and 2 days away from kicking off Major Championship season for 2022! In the meantime, we’ve got lots of football to watch this fall until snow sports season starts (we have awesome Ski & Snowboard Experts here on Curated by the way), and here are some awesome bloopers from this year’s biggest names in golf to keep you laughing until the Ryder Cup starts.

Look out for additional coverage on the Ryder Cup soon, and of course, feel free to reach out to me or any of our Golf Experts to help you get geared up like the pros!
