About this review: This review is my honest opinion of the irons which I bought with my own money in November 2019.

My take

The Titleist T100 irons are good for more advanced players looking to work the ball around the course without sacrificing distance and forgiveness. The Titleist T-series irons offer a confident look with tour-inspired looks, solid forged feel, greater consistency, a thin topline, and a compact blade length that screams: "These are tour irons." I like the minimal offset look and the unrivaled feel and precision control these new irons provide.

What I was looking for

Before purchasing these clubs, I was having a hard time figuring out what kind of irons I wanted to play; should I be playing blades? Or do I still need forgiveness? As with most golfers, I didn't know where to begin. I liked the look of a thinner head and the feel of a forged club. I needed a club that could bridge the gap while I figured out what was best for my improving game. The player feedback has been very positive from the hands of Titleist tour pros. I wanted to have control of the shot-shaping, and I wanted the best feel I could find. I wanted to have a brushed chrome finish to reduce any glare from the sun, a cleaner look at address, and better performance than my old irons.

Why I chose this club

Simply, this set of irons gave me everything I needed. I was looking for a golf club that had a thinner topline and the ability to shape shots around the course, ideal turf interaction, and correlating bounce but would still provide help on miss-hits, which is exactly what the T100 irons gave me. I tested a few other sets in the same category as the T100 irons, such as Titleist MBs, Taylormade P750, and Callaway Apex Pros. I was getting similar numbers from other sets, but I just couldn’t say no to the look of these irons. I could get all the distance and forgiveness, AND both in a smaller clubhead, so it was a no-brainer for me. It didn't hurt that Jordan Spieth uses these clubs, also.

What I love about it

  • Distance: For a player’s iron, I got exactly the distance I expected. They aren’t flying off the face, but that isn’t what I’m looking for either. I get consistent distances as long as I have consistent strikes.
  • Forgiveness: For an iron designed for better players, it still gave me forgiveness when I would inevitably miss-hit a shot. The long irons had fast ball speed and uniform feeling throughout the set. Heel and toe hits were minimized and still went straight. The continuous cradle construction on the face is a welcome technology, along with the dual cavity engineering.
  • Feel: I hadn’t used Titleist irons until these, but I would always hear about them being one of the most trusted brands in the iron space. After a few shots, I completely understood the hype. On my good shots, such as my pitching wedge, I could barely feel the ball come off the face. But I was most impressed with my bad shots because the feedback from miss-hits instantly explained why I came up 20 yards short (lol). The stock grip is nice, and the seamless striking surface allows plenty of feedback. The thin top line, lower spin rates, better turf interaction, a revamped leading edge sole design, and stability all add up to an effortless hit.
  • Workability: I like to shape my shots as much as possible, I just don’t see straight lines when I’m visualizing shots, and maybe that is just an excuse for not being able to hit anything straight. But the T100 irons allowed me to hit all the shots I wanted, and even some I didn’t know were possible. Low, high, draw, fade…when I grip these irons, I could do (or at least try) it all.
  • Shaft Performance: The Dynamic Gold X100 shaft is a real beast of a shaft and one of the many shaft options for the new T-series irons. It is very stiff; I can still feel the clubhead at all times, and I can trust that I’m going to get consistent results throughout the bag. Even when I lay off a shaft, the shafts still perform even though they are extra-stiff. They are a “low” spinning shaft, but I can still hold the greens from the longest of distances.
  • Launch Angle: In Wyoming, I have to play most of my golf in some type of windy conditions, and because of that, I like to flight most of my shots lower than most. With these irons, I’ve had no issues hitting low shots when I need to. On the flip side, I still can hit stock shots or higher shots with no issues. But being able to hit those low shots has been vital to my game. I wasn't looking for stronger lofts, I wanted consistency.

Issues I’ve encountered

  • Shaft Feel: This is an extra stiff shaft, and it feels that way. As much as I would like the performance that I need from an x-stiff shaft with the feel of graphite, I am just not going to find that.
  • Spin: Every once in a while, the spin on the longer irons would not give me the most consistent results. On some shots, I would get some spinny, ballooning shots as opposed to the more penetrating ball flight that I prefer.

Best shot with this club

The ninth hole at my home course has a really tight fairway that doglegs to the right, OB (out of bounds) on both sides, and bunkers up the left, and is just a real nightmare. I’ve tried everything I could think of without any consistent results. Now I am able to grab the T100 4-iron out of my bag with no hesitation, put the ball a little back in my stance, hit a low, hooking stinger-type shot, and start walking straight up the fairway before the ball even lands!

Value for the money vs. other options

The T100 irons are a forged club and are one of the top irons models on tour. The word “forged” comes with an automatic assumption that the price is going to be on the higher end for irons. I also tested the Titleist MBs, Taylormade P750, and Callaway Apex Pros. Rarely will a cheaper forged option that provides top-tier performance be found, and knowing that the price is going to be higher from the get-go, these irons definitely won’t disappoint.

Final verdict

The refinements of the new tour-contoured sole, better tungsten, and cg placement allow the Titleist T100 irons to give me the confidence to hit the shots that tour players are always hitting. Even if I can’t execute the shot perfectly, the result isn’t going to hurt my scores. They allowed me to become a “shot-shaper” while keeping my misses on the green stuff.
