About this Review This is my honest opinion of the wedge which I purchased with my own money in August of 2020.
My take
The Callaway MD5 JAWS Wedge is great for low to mid-handicap golfers who are looking to have workability around the greens. This wedge is great for long pitch shots, full shots, and a variety of shots around the green.

How it performs
What I was looking for
I was looking for a wedge that was versatile around the greens through a variety of shots, but that I was able to hit solid full shots with.
Why I chose this club
I chose this club because I have used many other Callaway wedges in the past, and found a lot of success with them. I considered purchasing Cleveland wedges but found that Callaway’s MD5 Jaws wedges had a better feel.
What I love about it
- Feel: I am comfortable adjusting my loft to create different shots, while still being able to hit a full shot with it!
- Spin: I am able to get various types of spin with this club by adjusting the way it is laying, or with different swing types.
- Around the Green: There is a lot of versatility here as the wedges allow for different shot types.
- Aesthetic Appeal: The chrome finish gives it a beautiful look that sets up well for the eye.
Issues I’ve encountered
- Forgiveness: I find that it is sometimes hard to hit full with this wedge, and I tend to not get much forgiveness when I miss-hit this with a full swing.
- Full Shots: Sometimes the club feels too heavy in the hand during full swings, so it is difficult to control it.
- Grip Feel: The grip that comes on this club is okay, it just will need to be replaced fairly soon because it gets slick very easily.
Best Shot with this Wedge
I can’t count the number of times I’ve used these wedges and chipped in! A memorable chip-in came when I was on the 9th hole of a tournament, and I was in a greenside bunker with a downslope, and my 58-degree wedge cut beautifully through the sand, rolling the ball right into the hole.
Value for the money vs. other options
Those who are Callaway people will love how this wedge feels and looks. I would say this is well worth the money with all of the versatility it has, but another great option, the Cleveland RTX ZipCore, is at a similar price point and has similar options for versatility.
Final verdict
The Callaway MD5 JAWS wedge gives me the opportunity to create a lot of new shots for my bag, and is a great addition! I love these wedges, and I will continue to get them every time I need new wedges.
