About this Review: This review is my honest opinion of the golf balls which I purchased with my own money in May of 2022.

My take

The Callaway 2021 SuperSoft Golf Balls are great balls for players who have a good feel around the greens and whose swing speed is no more than 95 mph - 100 mph with the driver. Swings that are faster than 100 mph are capable of more compression, but this two-piece ball isn’t built for that kind of compression. While using this ball, I ended up losing control, and distance with drivers and longer clubs. Overall, I enjoyed playing with the Callaway 2021 SuperSoft White Golf Ball because of the soft feel and distance control inside of 100 yards, as well as on the green.

What I was looking for

I like to play the Callaway Chrome Soft balls, but those cost $50 per dozen. So I’m experimenting with different balls to see if I can find one that’s less expensive and still delivers on distance with the driver/long irons and provides exceptional touch with my scoring irons and putter.

Why I chose this golf ball

I chose the 2021 SuperSoft because a dozen balls only cost $25. Plus, with a name like “SuperSoft”, I figured the touch had to be pretty good, and maybe the distance would be too (since the box does say “Super Long”).

What I love about them

  • Feel: The hybrid cover on this ball makes it feel like a top-end ball. The result is contact that feels like hitting a marshmallow, not a rock (like it feels with other less expensive balls).
  • Green Spin: Again, the hybrid cover delivers better than expected spin for a less expensive ball. Usually, balls that cost $25 per dozen deliver minimal spin.
  • Durability: At the end of the round, the ball was in good shape and could definitely be played with again!
  • Color: Plain white ball. No problems seeing it in the air.

Issues I’ve encountered

  • Distance: Since this is a two-piece ball, it doesn’t compress as well as a more expensive four-piece ball. Since my swing speed is about 110 mph, I could get more compression, but this ball doesn’t allow it. That’s why my distance suffered, especially with the driver. I estimate I lost about 20 yards on some of my better-hit drivers.
  • Any workarounds?: With my normal swing (hard and aggressive), the ball was ballooning on me and a fade started to creep into my ball flight. So, I started to swing easier with my driver and long irons in order to get more control of my ball flight.

Best shot with this golf ball

My best shot with this ball was on a par 3, I was in the rough just off the green from my tee shot. I had to land the ball about 10 feet onto the green so that the ball would roll down the hill towards the hole. I landed the ball EXACTLY where I wanted to and it rolled to 2 feet from the pin. Easy par! The soft feel and control that I felt with the ball is exactly what I expect around the green.

Value for the money vs. other options

The SuperSoft is a very good ball for the money ($25 for a dozen). I play the Chrome Soft normally ($50 for a dozen). The SuperSoft has a really soft touch — even softer than the Chrome Soft! For swing speeds of about 95 mph or less, I think this is an excellent ball and great value for the price! A slightly cheaper ball from Callaway is the Warbird ($18 per dozen), but it won’t deliver nearly the same touch inside of 100 yards.

Final verdict

To wrap up my review, I think the 2021 Callaway SuperSoft is an excellent ball inside of 100 yards. The feel and control is excellent. For me though, since my swing is 110 mph, I normally compress the golf ball more than this ball allows, so I lost some distance. Overall, I was pleased with this inexpensive ball, but I won’t be playing it in the future.
