About this Review: This review is my honest opinion of the golf balls which I purchased with my own money in April of 2022.

My take

The TaylorMade Tour Response Stripe golf ball is great for all skill levels. It offers medium spin off the tee and around the green for that excellent all-around playability. The feature that makes this ball stand out is the wide green stripe across the mid-line for additional alignment and visibility.

What I was looking for

I was looking for a ball that performs well outside the “premium ball” price point. The attractive point about this ball is the wide stripe across the median, which I have never seen before in a model.

Why I chose this golf ball

I decided to buy the TaylorMade Tour Response Stripe after rolling some putts in my local golf shop. I especially liked how the wide stripe provided immediate feedback on whether to keep my putt on-line. In addition, I have played the 2020 model of this ball and was happy with the performance, so I expected to see the same results.

What I love about it

  • Feel: The TaylorMade Tour Response Stripe has a great feel to it, provided by the urethane cover. It gives the player a decent reaction off the clubface, as well as the ability to control on approach and around the green.
  • Durability: I notice excellent durability with this ball. Over the time I spent testing it, I put a lot of wedge shots on it, and the cover was still pristine. I think this is one of the best qualities of this ball. You get premium construction for less.
  • Color: The color (stripe) of the ball is the most intriguing aspect of this new model. The TaylorMade Tour Response Stripe has a green/yellow wide stripe that stands apart from any other ball for good cause. This allows the player to aim any shot or putt. I like that it has a wider stripe than a normal ball line because I feel as though it inspired more confidence.

Issues I’ve encountered

  • Distance: The TaylorMade Tour Response Stripe ball lacks distance compared to other “premium” ball types I have played. I compared these in both the simulator and off the tee. This ball was about 8-10 yards shorter with a driver than the TP5x.
  • Green Spin: This TM stripe ball did not hold spin around the green as much as I would have liked. Compared with the TP5 or say a PROV1, this ball did not “cling” to the green and stop as much. I would have preferred it to be even softer in this sense.

Best shot with this golf ball

The best shot I have hit so far with the Taylormade Tour Response Stripe ball is on a short par 3 hole at Fairways CC in Warrington, PA. I played a 110-yard hole and hit off the tee with a 56-degree wedge. The ball flew at an average height and landed softly (no huge backspin) next to the hole about 8 feet away. The ball felt great off the club strike and did not wobble in the air or when it hit the green.

Value for the money vs. other options

At the $39 price point, this ball comes in a little lower than others in the premium category. However, the stripe may make it worthwhile for some players who don’t mind being “different." It's not your typical ball design. You still get above-average performance from the ball, and the durability is top-notch.

I also considered the Taylormade TP5x Viz, a premium, top-of-the-line TM ball with special logos printed around the ball for enhanced visibility.

Final verdict

The TaylorMade Tour Response Stripe ball is a great new addition for 2022 in that it is the first mainstream ball to offer a wide, yellow/green stripe for alignment and visibility. The feel and durability are just what you expect from a higher-end TaylorMade ball. Although it lacks a little in distance and spin, it's still a very good product.
