These are made in Italy and are very comfortable with GripWalk soles and a shell that can be anatomically molded to fit the shape of your foot very easily and quickly. The width of this boot is 102mm so it is for someone with a medium-wide foot. The flex rating on this is great for a growing beginner/intermediate that enjoys lasting comfort throughout the day.

Salomon X Access 70 Wide Ski Boots
Beginners/first boots. This has a 104mm last which is a relaxed comfortable width designed for wider feet. It also comes with a calf adjuster for wider capacity and broader range of fit for most leg shapes. The 70 flex is rated for beginners but comes in at a medium/soft, so you still get good energy transfer to the ski! There aren't many downsides to this unless you have an exceptionally narrow foot!
These are a nice light construction in a wide and high volume boot. 70 flex is also a nice and soft flex that is very forgiving. These have a calf adjuster as well to be able to accommodate a wide variety of calf sizes (so a great option for his wider calfs). And though they are a soft boot they still have decent power transfer to help drive those skis.
With a wide 104mm last width to accommodate wider feet and an adjustable calf width as well for a comfortable fit from the top to bottom of your boots. The 70 flex is pretty soft so it'll take little input to get those skis turning and will help you work on keeping forward pressure in the boots for the best control.

The Nordica Speedmachine 75 boots are recommended for beginning to intermediate skiers. This is a non-aggressive, comfortable, and warm boot. It will take you into advanced terrain, but is a bit soft for regular expert skiing. This is a good intermediate-level boot with a medium-soft flex and comfy liner.

This is a kid's boot, but a smaller adult who skis gently and has narrow feet will appreciate it too! It has the kindness of a kid's boot but the performance of a soft adult boot.
This is a great boot to learn and progress this has a bit more flex so will grow with him as he gets stronger. It is slightly more narrow in the forefoot than the Dalbello .
