Anyone wanting to escape the long line nightmare at the rental counter and invest in a superb boot for all-mountain skiing. This boot focuses on shedding the weight by starting with the slimmest possible profile and then building up reinforcement in key zones around the foot like the energetic backbone at the heel, and extra cushioning at the tongue and toe box. This one is ideal for lighter-weighing skiers and those who like to get rad in the air at the park.

The three-piece (aka cabrio) design allows for really consistent flex throughout the entire range of motion as you apply pressure to the front of your boot. It also makes for a really comfortable boot. A regular boot will be made of 2 pieces, the lower "shoe" and the bootcuff, whereas this design has the lower "shoe", a partial cuff around the back of your calf and ankle, and a plastic tongue piece, which really makes these boots adjustable. In boots, adjustability = comfort. These also have a walk mode, which makes the boot flex/hinge very easily when you are walking around in the ski lodge or to the parking lot.

Dalbello boots are almost always the best-fitting boot out of the box. The shells are already stretched in most of the places where there is often tightness, like the toes and the ankle. The three-piece shell also makes them very easy to get in and out of, without sacrificing any sort of performance. These are 85 flex (this determines how easy they are to bend). The bottom 3 buckles give great retention to the skier, while the top buckle has a sliding buckle ladder to accommodate for the calf muscle if it attaches lower - a common difference between women and men's anatomy. The result is a boot that still gives a snug fit, but isn't constricting the leg or cutting off circulation.

Expert Q&A
First off, ski boots should be comfortable! You want them snug enough that your foot isn’t moving around inside but not so tight that they’re painful. Advanced skiers who want more performance might size down compared to a more beginner skier. Generally speaking, when you put the boot on, your toes will be near the end. Buckle them up and flex forward into a ski stance to seat your heel back in the pocket. If you’re cranking on buckles to hold your foot in place, your boot is too big.
There are ski boots on the market now for every foot shape and skier type. Most brands have a narrow, medium, and wide option for each model and they sell each model in a range of flexes (stiffnesses). You want to pick a boot that’s the right flex for where you are skill-wise. If you get in a boot that’s too stiff, it can cause you to develop poor form and be really uncomfortable, with painful shins especially.
A boot in the $400 range is generally an intermediate boot (or a past season boot that’s on sale) You can expect a fairly moderate flex (generally in the 90-110 range) and a comfortable, at least partially moldable, liner so you can get a customized fit. This is especially key if you have a specific fit issue in boots.
