Now in its third year, the Blaze continues to impress. Lighter, quicker, and "sportier" than some of Volkl's more piste oriented skis, the Blaze is a freeride machine that loves to get off into trees, side hits, moguls, and light powder. But don't let that fool you, the Blaze uses Vokl's 3D radius sidecut, so you can lay big arcs or quick slalom turns. Super fun ski.

This is an agile resort ski that you could also take to the backcountry considering its light weight. Metal underfoot and suspension tech in the tips and tails should give you the confidence you need to stay on edge while not having to fight the ski to turn. At only 1427g, this is a light ski with a short turn radius. It should be a blast!

An amazing all-mountain ski that is lightweight enough for true alpine touring, but still stable for handling the hardpack. Great flotation in a 94 underfoot ski, with the well known performance of Volkl.

At 97 underfoot, these skis are a great width for touring in New England. Much more width and it would become difficult to control the edge on the firm surfaces. These skis are light but strong. They'll hold an edge on East Coast ice but won't be a burden to hike with.

The Atomic Backland 95's are true backcountry skis. This ski will be lightweight on the uphill and still maintain control and stability on the down. The 95mm waist width gives this ski the ability to tackle floating on powder, while the camber underfoot will ensure solid edge hold and control on hard-packed snow. The ski is lightweight due to its wood core, which Atomic created for those long approach tours. However, the carbon backbone, while adding some agility, will hold up seamlessly as an all-mountain ski.

At only 1350g per ski, the Atomic Backland 95 certainly fits into a light touring category. But at 95 underfoot and with the HRZN tech tip, this ski floats incredibly well and provides exceptional soft snow performance. Combined with Atomic's carbon backbone, the edge hold is solid, giving you an extremely versatile ski.

Poplar and wood core will be very light to ski but also very well balanced. 162 cm should not be too long and will be easier to maneuver than some longer options.

The Atomic Backland 98 is made to be a women's backcountry ski that can do it all. With a 98 mm waist and Atomic's HRZN tech tip, it can easily float in powder, but with lightweight wood core reinforced by a carbon backbone, it is stiff and responsive enough for steep descents where you need to trust in your ski. It is also deliciously lightweight, weighing in at just 1200 grams per ski in the 164 cm length. this is a serious touring ski that makes the uphill a delight and the downhill whatever you want it to be.

DPS Pagoda Tour 100 RP Skis · 2023

$1,549.00

DPS commands a cult following of rabid fans for a reason: their skis are incredibly lightweight, super fun in powder, and very intuitive to ski. The Pagoda is the opposite of a hard-charging ski, preferring instead to cut easy turns through deep powder and navigate effortlessly through trees and glades. The Pagoda boasts a 15 meter turning radius, which is absurd for such a wide ski, and of course, DPS prides itself on its construction, marrying a paulownia and ash core with a carbon laminate and DPS's amazingly light aerospace foam to provide stiffness and shed weight. The Pagoda can easily be driven by an intermediate skier looking for powder stashes, all the way to an expert skier looking to dive into a steep couloir.

$799.95

As a touring ski, the Wayback 106 is a fun-loving, easy going ski that appeals to a wide arrange of skiers. Its incredibly light at 1500 grams per ski in the 179 cm length, meaning you sometimes forget its still attached to your feet. But K2 stiffens the ski with a Titanal metal laminate underfoot to give it strength and stability. The Wayback really shines in soft snow and powder, and the all terrain rocker makes it super surfy and super fun for smearing your way through deep snow. Its lightweight nature can get knocked around a bit in more variable snow, but other than that, the Wayback is the perfect one ski quiver for doing mellow hot laps in the sidecountry or all-day missions deep into the mountains.

Being one of the lightest mid-fat touring skis out there at around 1500 grams per ski, these keep your legs fresh on ascents but are really strong once you get your turns in. These are particularly stiff underfoot and at the tail, giving you a lot of spring out of a turn while allowing the front part of the ski to float in powder well and provide great turn initiation.
