Most trekking poles are adjustable in height and it's important to know how long to make your trekking poles. Generally, when you grip your poles, you want your elbow to create a 90 degree angle with your lower and upper arm. Sometimes it is helpful to make your poles a little shorter when ascending steep hills, or a little longer when descending steep hills. Trekking pole length is largely based on personal preference, but a general rule of thumb is to make sure your elbow is creating a 90 degree angle when you hold the grips of your poles with the tips on the ground.
