Review by Curated Expert Jorge Arteta
I have owned the Callaway MD5 Wedge in 56-degrees for over two months. It’s been everything that I expected it to be. I play on some mini-tour events in Florida and wedges impact my game: the s-grind has allowed me to play in numerous conditions and with plenty of freedom to open my face and get creative. Although I believe anyone can play this wedge, some of its features are better suited for intermediate to better players.

Expert Q&A
Quick, accurate answers from Curated experts to the frequently asked questions
What are the different grinds on Callaway Jaws wedges?
There are four different grinds. 1) X - grind = high bounce for the 58 and 60 degree lofts, best for those who have steep angle of attack 2) Z - grind = low bounce for the 58 and 60 degree lofts, best for those who want to open the face around the greens 3) W - grind = 12 degree bounce for the 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, and 60 degree lofts. best for those who want the most forgiveness 4) S - grind = 10 degree bounce, for the 48, 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, and 60 degree lofts, best for a wide variety of conditions and shots

Are Callaway Jaws MD5 wedges forged?
Callaway MD5 wedges are forged from 1025 carbon steel. They provide a high spin rate and can check up on the green very quickly. Aimed at mid to low handicap level golfers. The sweet spot is small and not too forgiving, but the feel is solid and gives confidence on every shot. These are very effective around the green and chips. Takes a bit more effort for full swings. Should be a top consideration if you a golfer who is looking for a blade-style wedge.

Are JAWS wedges forgiving?
The wedges are forgiving, to a point. These are blade style wedges so forgiveness is not the top priority. There is a small sweet spot which provides a soft feel and sound. If a player is looking for forgiveness these wedges would not be an option. The main objective to these wedges is spin, and they perform to the highest level.

New Jaws groove design uses an extremely sharp edge to increase spin and control around the greens. Groove-in-Groove technology features micro-positive surface texture with radius grooves that are raised off the face for added spin.

Callaway says the grooves on their new JAWS MD5 wedges are the most aggressive in the game, and produce more spin over the previous MD4 thanks to a new groove-wall design that is 32º greater in angle than the previous model. This allows for the grooves to catch the ball cleaner and add to spin.

60 degree lob wedge gives you a solid option to launch and land soft shots around the green. Enhanced grooves from the PM grind wedges have been utilized here in the MD5 to give this the most aggressive groove ever for the Mack Daddy wedge.
