Expert Q&A
Quick, accurate answers from Curated experts to the frequently asked questions
How do you choose fishing waders?
Before you purchase a new pair of waders, consider how you plan to use them. Three important considerations are comfort, durability, and breathability. You will need chest waders if the water rises above your waist. Neoprene waders are great when it is frigid but unbearable in the summer when lightweight breathable waders may be a better choice. When choosing waders, match your selection to your fishing.

How should Simms waders fit?
Simms waders should fit you well. You want to avoid having excessive fabric as this will bunch and prematurely wear the fabric due to rubbing. Too big of waders are also unsafe as you will have increased areas of drag in swift currents and increased air pockets which make it difficult to recovery from a fall. Too small and the seams will be stretched and you will be uncomfortable. To properly fit Simms waders, you need three measurements. The first measurement is your largest girth area. This will be either your chest, waist, or hips. Next you will need to know your inseam. Lastly, you will need your shoe size. Take these three measurements and apply them to the Simms fitting chart and that will tell you which wader size you need.

What are Stockingfoot waders?
Stockingfoot waders have sock-like booties attached to the ends. A pair of wading boots and gravel guards (often built into the wader) are worn over these sock-like booties. This offers you the chance to buy waders and separate wading boots for a better fit and more comfort.

Simms makes a great wader. The Freestone has a reinforced lower which will provide more abrasion resistance in the area where most holes occur. Perfect for anglers who spend a 30+ days on the water a year.

A step below the "guide" model. One less layer of fabric in the torso and knees, but same waterproofing and legendary warranty!! A top, budget-friendly wader!
