The Orvis Clearwater fly rod is a well built entry level rod that has plenty of room for anglers to grow. The moderate fast action is far crisper than many entry level rods and is of high enough quality that more experienced anglers should consider this as a back up rod.

Pros
  • This rod features an easy to cast moderate to fast action.
  • The rod has a 25 year warranty.
  • The rod features a comfortable cork grip.
Cons
  • The rod has a slower recovery rate than modern fast action rods.

The Orvis Clearwater fly rod outfit is great for fly fishers who are just beginning their journey in fly fishing. Offering multiple different sizes, this rod can be good for many species and technique applications. This fly rod is a good step above a complete beginner outfit in casting feel and quality and is perfect for the beginner fly fisher who wants a rod that will grow with their experience in casting. The only downfalls of this rod is a lack of power for making long casts with small flies and it does not have a hook keeper.

Pros
  • Top notch beginner fly rod
  • Multiple sizes for many fly fishing applications
  • Short distance casting with good feel
Cons
  • No hook keeper on the rod
  • Limited casting distance with small flies
