Comfortable for hiking and wet wading
Originally posted at www.orvis.com on Aug 11, 2024Usage: Hiking on and off trail through thick vegetation to get to streams, wading in rivers and cold streams with rocky, sandy, and muddy bottoms.
Sizing: I am normally a wide size 8.5, and ordered a 9 to be able to fit both a thick pair of wool socks and neoprene booties/gravel guards. With the socks and the neoprene the fit is excellent. No rubbing or pinching.
Functionality: Was initially worried these would be too stiff for hiking, but they actually work great. Surprisingly comfortable, lightweight. Water drains pretty well, and even hiking 6-10 miles with wet socks all day, no blisters or chafing. Grippy enough on their own that I have not needed studs so far. Using neoprene gravel guards that fold over and hook to the front clip has been successful at preventing mud, sand, and gravel from getting inside the boots, even when sinking into knee-deep mud. For summer use, I do not use waders, just the boots and gravel guards, with quick-dry hiking pants tucked into the gravel guards. This has been working well.
Durability: Have not had these long enough to say.
