Who would love these
The TaylorMade SIM2 Max Irons are ideal for mid to high handicap golfers who want forgiveness and distance. Perfect for players seeking high-launching, straight shots with minimal effort. Less suited for low handicappers looking for workability and shot control.
Why I recommend these
Expert verdict
The TaylorMade SIM2 Max Irons are built for golfers who want added distance and forgiveness in a game-improvement iron. One of the standout features is the Cap Back™ design, which reinforces the top line and adds stability, helping to maintain ball speed across the face even on mis-hits. The Thru-Slot Speed Pocket™ increases flexibility in the lower face, which helps improve distance on low strikes.
I appreciate the high launch and easy distance these irons deliver, making them ideal for mid to high handicap players who want more carry and consistency. The oversized head provides confidence at address, while the larger sweet spot helps maintain accuracy, even on off-center strikes. Although advanced players may find these irons lacking in workability, the SIM2 Max irons are perfect for those focused on straight, high shots with added forgiveness.

Is this iron recommended for you?
The TaylorMade SIM2 Max Iron Set is designed for mid-handicap players seeking reliable launch and improved performance where it is needed most. With multi-material construction, low launch relief, and fast face technologies stability and distance are maximized from various impact locations.
Key Features:
Cap Back Design – Providing stability within the topline and upper perimeter of the face, a new Cap Back Design, utilizing a polymer and multi-material construction, supports the topline from heel to toe.
ECHO Dampening System – With the use of the Cap Back Design, a full hollow body construction paves the way for a new ECHO Dampening System with a soft polymer blend to channel away harsh vibrations for a forged-like feel.
Progressive Inverted Cone Technology – Expanding the sweet spot by uniquely designing each face to the threshold of the legal limits of speed proliferates distance from strikes on and off-center.
Thru-Slot Speed Pocket – Engineered to maximize face flexibility on a lower point on the face increases ball speeds and launch from mishits low on the iron.
Low Center of Gravity – Derived from an array of technologies including a fluted hosel and an undercut and ultra-thin face, a lowered center of gravity position in each club promotes a high but penetrating flight trajectory.

- The Taylormade Sim2 Max irons are amazing for novice to intermediate golfers.
- The Taylormade Sim2 Max irons are extraordinarily forgiving which make them appetizing for the novice golfer.
- Reasonably priced and stand the test of time which make them a great investment for someone who does not want to upgrade every season.
- Novice to intermediate level golfers may find the longer irons (4/5 irons) slightly less forgiving.
- Professional level golfers would likely be more suited for a sturdier set of irons (i.e. P790 irons)
- I would not recommend upgrading to the Sim Max 2 if someone currently owns Sim Max irons
