Why ruin a nice bag with cheap plastic hooks?
Originally posted at www.orvis.com on Dec 1, 2024I do like the bag itself. It has plenty of space for all my fly fishing tackle. What I do not like are the cheap plastic hooks on the tippet holder. One of them broke the first time I tried to load tippets. Didn't they used to be made out of metal?

Orvis Guide Hip Pack
Originally posted at www.orvis.com on Oct 23, 2024I recently purchased this pack because I'm trying to lighten and take some of the weight off my neck. This pack is nice for the size of the cargo area. It is easy to get things in and out and still have room for a sandwich. The tippet wippet is nice and holds 7 tippet spools, but it was bit challenging to unhook it to put the spools on. Inside there aren't so many pockets that you forget what you have in them. I was concerned the waist belt wouldn't cinch down small enough for me, but it does, although I did find that if I don't use the neck strap that it will fall down if not cinched tighter. With that being said, if it is cinched so it won't fall, it makes it harder to twist it to get into the pack. I have not used the net holders on the belt because they are a bit awkward. The pocket on the front of the pack will hold 2 slim fly boxes easily, and I use it to hold my most used boxes. The neck strap with the pockets and tool holders is a bit uncomfortable for me because it is very stiff and doesn't sit right on me. I am a short woman so that could be why. It does come with another strap that is smaller that I haven't tried yet, but will be soon. There are a lot of fly patches on it, but I feel that I will lose flies because they will fall off. It would be nice to have a fly patch work station where the fly patch could be inside. This pack is easier to see what is inside than my Fishpond slingpack. It also gets the weight off my neck. I gave it 4 stars because overall it is a good pack, but there are a few limitations as with any pack.
