Product details

A distinctive design based around fewer, larger vents provides optimal ventilation and comfort on the longest and hottest cycling tours. Updated to include Mips, the Octal road cycling helmet is optimized to perfectly balance protection and performance.

The helmet’s EPS liner is thicker in the zones where most impacts occur, giving every rider enhanced protection where it is most needed.

A fully wrapped unibody shell enhances the structural stiffness of the helmet, giving optimum strength at a low weight.

Developed for protection without a weight penalty, the helmet also features a lightweight size adjustment system and adjustable chin straps, ensuring a comfortable and secure fit.

Are MIPS helmets worth it?
MIPS (Multi Impact Protection System) is an innovation installed in helmets that helps reduce the chance of brain injury in a crash. It is always worth it to purchase a helmet with MIPS.

Does the POC octal have MIPS?
The POC Octal helmet formally used SPIN but now strictly uses MIPS. SPIN used pads inside of the helmet that shear to reduce the forces transferred to the head by an oblique impact. SPIN stood for Shearing Pads INside. On the other hand, MIPS reduces the rotational impact during a crash by utilizing a low friction layer inside of the helmet. The low friction layer moves 10-15mm on certain angled impacts to help reduce the rotational forces on the head. The POC Octal is now called the POC Octal MIPS and uses MIPS technology for added protection.

Is spin like MIPS?
POC formally used SPIN in their helmets as an added safety feature. SPIN uses pads inside of the helmet that shear to reduce the forces transferred to the head from an oblique impact. SPIN stands for Shearing Pads INside. Some POC helmets utilize MIPS technology to reduce the rotational impact during a crash. MIPS helmets have a low friction layer inside of the helmet that moves 10-15mm on certain angled impacts to help reduce the rotational forces on the head. POC SPIN and MIPS are similar but POC no longer uses SPIN and has been phasing all of their helmets to MIPS instead.

Road cycling, endurance cycling, racing, hot weather. This helmet is an excellent option if you sweat a lot, or live in an extremely hot area. It has more ventilation ports than the average helmet and you may have seen it on the heads of a few Tour pros.
