The Curated Take

Great overall all around fairway wood that is easy to hit and launch from any lie. V sole helps improve contact. Not as long or hot faced as Titanium version but more accurate. Good for any handicap range. No ballflight bias is good for most players. Very solid sound and feel.

Product details

The TaylorMade SIM2 Max Fairway is designed to deliver a vast array of mid-handicap players maximum launch by employing a low center of gravity with a V Steel sole that cuts through any turf condition. The confluence of low face forgiveness and fast face technologies expand the sweet spot for uncompromised distance and accuracy. Key Features: - V Steel with Ultra-Low CG – Constructed with an 80-gram V Steel sole improves turf interaction and versatility at impact, while tour-inspired shaping and center of gravity properties solicit high launch with low spin for explosive distance. - ZATECH Titanium with Twist Face – The Twist Face design overcomes inherent player mishit tendencies on an ultra-strong face material to accelerate ball speeds from a greater impact area. - Multi-Material Construction – Built with a light carbon crown, titanium body, and steel sole plate merges a multitude of materials to deliver improved launch performance with high MOI (moment of inertia or, in other words, resistance to twisting), stability and forgiveness. - Thru-Slot Speed Pocket – Increasing face flexibility to maintain ball speeds over more of the face, Thru-Slot Speed Pockets are engineered into the sole to proliferate distance on even low mishits.

The SIM2 Max is the latest iteration from TaylorMade in their "Shape in Motion" line, and it's found a place in my bag. This fairway wood is a perfect for people who don't like hitting fairway woods. Seems counterintuitive, but a good 3-wood or 5-wood is incredibly hard to find, and this is a great option. The SIM2 Max is designed to be easy to launch, which is the hardest part about hitting a low lofted club. It has a lot of weight low and back in the head, which gives it inherent forgiveness compared to other, lower spinning heads on the market today.

I struggled with finding a fairway wood that I liked, and I immediately fell in love with the SIM2 Max. I picked out the 3HL, which acts as a 4-wood. It's a perfect option to fit in between my driver and hybrid. It can be a safe option off the tee, or an attacking shot into a par 5. I love having it in the bag, and I really recommend it to anyone who is looking for a new option for their long game. It has a bit of a draw bias, so it also has some protection if you fight the slice. I would recommend this club to anybody!

  • Fast, forgiving and versatile for different situations
  • Launches easily and flies far
  • Available in many different lofts for different players
  • Not adjustable
  • Weight is low and back, harder to control trajectory

Can you share a story of a happy purchaser whom you recommended this product to?
I got the Sim2 Max Fairway, along with the driver, for a customer last season. Carmen needed a new set of woods and absolutely loved his choice of the Sim2. He got the driver, and 2 woods. He hits them super far and is very happy with his purchase.

What is the difference between SIM Max and Sim Max D fairway woods?
The Sim Max is a forgiving high launching fairway wood designed to increase spin and height as well as added forgiveness compared to the standard Sim fairway wood. The Sim Max D is the draw version of the sim max so it still does all of the same things as the max but has a draw bias for players who struggle with a slice.
