Tyrolia built the AM to be a more price-conscious binding that doesn't skimp on any safety features. The "AM" in the title stands for "all-mountain," and the AMs offer big performance all over the mountain, with a smaller hit to the wallet. These bindings are great for anyone from larger beginners who need a slightly higher DIN than entry-level bindings, all the way to advanced skiers who want a safe and dependable binding, but aren't drawn to the super high-end options.
The AM is compatible with both GripWalk and Alpine soles, and its DIN range of 3.5 to 12 means it caters to a wide range of skill levels. For hard-charging skiers, the 12 DIN may prove a bit low, and Tyrolia's use of plastic in the heel might leave truly aggressive skiers wanting. While the AMs may be a bit overkill for lighter, newer skiers, they are a quality, budget-friendly option for skiers wanting an all-mountain capable binding.

Luke was very helpful as I am new to skiing but I feel as if I'm acclimating faster than the average person. I wanted to get something a little more advanced that I could grow into quickly and it also be useful for all-mountain usage. At first I thought I had made my decision prior to talking to him about getting Volkl mantra 88's, but I determined with his help that a larger waist was going to be a more versatile ski for me in the Rockies. A few conversations later, I fell into the Rustler 9's instead of using Volkl mantra 88's or mantra 7's. He really helped push me in the right direction so I could make a targeted approach.
