The Curated Take
The Burton Cartel EST is a high quality all-mountain binding for the snowboarder who is strictly a Burton board rider. Overall it is a damp, responsive binding with great board feel and super easy adjustable features like the EST system mounting screws, which are located outside the footbed and enable angle adjustments down to a micro level. I love the tool-less screws on the binding straps, these things are so convenient I have adjusted straps right on the chairlift - just be careful not to blow it and drop the screw!
I get the convenience of the EST system, but personally I don't love the feel. No hard facts here, but the screws seem to come loose easier and more often, so make sure to keep them tight or roll with a binding tool. You can also get the bindings in the re:flex version and be able to transfer them board to board if you ride brands other than Burton.
I also prefer a softer material in my binding straps over the hard plastic straps on the newer models of this binding. They do fit really nice and snug when paired with most boots, but I couldn't quite get the adjustments right and the toe strap felt awkwardly out of place pushing into the outer toe of my boot. Not a deal breaker, but I would like to see an upgrade in this area in future models, the straps could be comfier.
