Helly Hansen is the best of the best when it comes to base layers. This is a synthetic, wool blend but unlike most brands, HH does it a little differently. Instead of blending all the materials together and which puts the wool on your skin, this is almost 2 pants sandwiched together. The water-wicking synthetic is against your skin and the wool is the 2nd layer to keep you warm and keep pushing that moisture out. The 3/4 length keeps it out of the top of the boot and from bunching up.
