Expert Q&A
Quick, accurate answers from Curated experts to the frequently asked questions
How do you pack an Osprey Talon?
The proper way to pack a backpack: First assemble all of your gear, arrange by weight, and then pack... 1. Bottom – Mid-weight items (sleeping bag, air mattress, light clothes) 2. Middle back – Heaviest items (bladder/reservoir, cookwear, food, fuel, battery bank) 3. Front – Lightest items (pillow, light clothes, towel) 4. Top – Lighter items that you may need access to quickly (snacks, first aid, rain gear, TP) 5. Hip belt - quick or often used items (snacks, phone, chap stick, map) Keep the center of gravity nearest your spine. If strapping gear to the outside of the pack, make sure it's the bulky but lighter items (sleeping bag or foam mattress). Wet clothing can be secured outside to dry while hiking. Nest items when possible (fuel canister inside cook pot). Carry only as much water as needed. Water weighs 2.2 lbs per liter. Put the filled bladder in first before packing the rest.Water bottles in side pockets.

Is Osprey worth the money?
This will answer whether Osprey is worth the money. Osprey offers the "Almighty Guaranty" makes it quite clear... "Osprey will repair any damage or defect for any reason free of charge — whether it was produced in 1974 or yesterday. If we are unable to perform a functional repair on your pack, we will happily replace it. We proudly stand behind this guarantee, so much so that it bears the signature of company founder and head designer, Mike Pfotenhauer." This guaranty covers EVERYTHING. Wear/tear, bear, fire, etc. This alone makes Osprey worth the money in my opinion. You pay for shipping to their CO location and they will repair/replace your item and return it. You only pay shipping one way. My Exos 58 L backpack was replaced after 8+ years of use, misuse, and abuse. If only everyone had such an excellent return policy and customer service department.

Great stability and ability to keep well adjusted while hiking any terrain. This is an awesome size to pack light lite and travel from a day trip to a light over nighter.
