Expert Q&A
Quick, accurate answers from Curated experts to the frequently asked questions
What does GW mean in bindings?
The "GW" on alpine ski bindings indicates compatibility with GripWalk soles , a relatively recent sole that is increasingly common on all-moutain boots and that provides extra traction when walking. Bindings with the GW designation are compatible with ski boots that have either Regular Alpine soles (ISO 5355) or GripWalk Soles.

Excellent binding for intermediate to expert skiers who run a mid-range Din (7-9) and don't need/want the added weight of the 14 or all metal Pivot 15. The Pivot 12 is compatible with both Alpine and GripWalk soles and with its trademark rotating heel piece that rotates around your tib/fib to protect your leg and knees, many regard the Look Pivot as the safest binding in the game. It has excellent shock absorption boasting the largest heel elasticity across all bindings and its toe elasticity (45mm) is just shy of the Salomon STH's (52mm). It's a binding you can trust to keep you locked in and release only when the time is right.
