The TFO NXT Black label fly reel is great reel for beginner fly fisherman. I would highly recommend this fly reel for anyone needing a backup fly reel or one for their kids. It has a very smooth and powerful drag system with a machined drag knob and is very lightweight. The ported design allows lighter weight and keeps water out. This reel is a die cast aluminum design that isn’t extremely durable, but at the price point its still great for a backup fly reel. The reel is not a fully caged design and does allow some fly line snags between the spool and cage.

The NXT Black Label series of reels set a new benchmark for performance at an affordable price. Machined, cast aluminum frame, ported to reduce weight and featuring a machined handle drag knob and spool release for increased durability during rigorous use. The NXT Black Label series utilizes a stacked, alternating disc drag system that delivers plenty of drag pressure, with no startup inertia. Easy LH/RH conversion (no tools needed) and all reels come packaged in a black neoprene pouch. The three reel series is perfect for trout, warm water species and even light saltwater applications.

Rylyn found a sale for the Douglas Sky G rod and recommended it. He said that this was the best rod in the market and so I bought it. We paired it with monic Trout Master fly line. I was not disappointed at all! The rod feels intuitive and natural to cast. I could cast more accurately and a longer distance than I ever did with my previous rod.
