Beginner at fly fishing

The flyfishing store recommended the Clearwater Fly Rod outfit, which was very reasonably priced. It seemed to work as well as the expensive models. I'm sure this rod will be with me for years to come as I progress in skill level. A great rod for a great price.

You Get What You Pay For
Originally posted at www.orvis.com on Feb 24, 2025The rod itsowself, including the guides, is great. The cork handle looks good out of the box but when washed up and carefully inspected the filling is dreadful. No attention to details. And the cork has not been sealed at all. The cork handle has been dressed up, but fails inspection. I fixed this by carefully sanding the cork, filing with filler (brand omitted), re-sanding, and sealing with U-40 Cork sealer. Better, but not perfect. Your get what you pay for. This is a $250 rod.
