The Orvis Clearwater is an accurate, versatile fly rod with a powerful medium-fast action. Orvis designed this rod to have an entry-level price while still performing well enough for any experience level angler. With its powerful blank, this rod is ideal for longer casts and heavier flies in both fresh and saltwater applications.

Key Features:

  • Medium-Fast Action – Orvis designates the action of this rod as medium-fast, making it ideal for most anglers as it accommodates a wide variety of casting styles.

  • Chrome Snake and Stripping Guides with Ceramic Inserts – The Clearwater is adorned with chrome guides that are durable and allow for smooth line shooting.

  • 25-Year Guarantee – Orvis stands by their products and the Clearwater is no exception. Anglers can rest assured that their purchase will be protected in the event of an accidental breakage or unlikely manufacture defect.

Much better than your average “starter” gear.

Originally posted at www.orvis.com on Jun 22, 2024
I have 2 Clearwater 5wt 9’, one 6 wt. and one 3wt 10’ Euronymph rod. In recent years I’ve toyed with the idea of going with a higher-priced “premium” rod, either an Orvis, Sage, Winston, ec., but decided against it. I saw a blind-cast comparison by two top editors of Field & Stream and they found that the Clearwater series had comparable performance to others costing 3X as much. Some may not know but when Orvis went back to their 25-year guarantee, the other manufacturers had to come close or match that, but since many don’t have the sales volume or the “broadband” of overall merchandise that Orvis has to cover that cost, prices went up. Worldwide, technology and value have increased, and although a $1,000 rod has some advantages, unless you are into competition or have $$$ laying around, spend it elsewhere.

Clearwater rod & reel: Best value for the money!

Originally posted at www.orvis.com on Jun 18, 2024
Bought a Clearwater 9 foot, 4 piece, 5 wt rod & reel package, which is my second Orvis rod & reel purchase. While I have only used it once, it lived up to its billing. Well balanced, casts great, and nice looking. Highly recommend it for beginners, intermediate, and experienced fly fishermen.

I'm an intermediate angler with little knowledge of equipment. Rylyn was very responsive to all my questions, even the ones I thought were stupid. Very open about what he does and how he is paid. I highly recommend him.

Helped me with some valuable fly fishing knowledge that I lack coming from the conventional fishing world. Hooked me up with a good starter rod and even price matched it with another company. Will be coming back for a reel soon.
