The Smith Engage MIPS is a great looking helmet for the majority of trail mountain bike riders. It gives good protection in a comfortable lightweight package for someone that isn't hitting large drops or riding bike parks on a regular basis. It is well ventilated to keep you cool on long climbs and hot days. The fit is very adjustable thanks to the easy to use VaporFit retention dial. With a large selection of colors and a strong price point, the Engage MIPS is a very good choice for riders getting into their first real trail bike or upgrading their helmet to something with MIPS protection.

Pros
  • Great adjustability with easy to use retention dial
  • Ventilations is very good even on hot days
  • Light and comfortable for a helmet with solid protection
Cons
  • Doesn't work as well with non Smith branded eyewear. Does the job but can take some work to get them stowed in the helmet.

Overall, the Smith Engage MIPS is one of my favorite all-around helmets. I would use this for urban riding and definitely mountain bike riding. I love that the shell has full coverage around the foam so the helmet can bump into things without showing all of the scuffs the way some of the entry level option can look so beat up after only a couple months of getting packed around.

I would absolutely buy this helmet again and for sure because it's just a simple and lightweight design that has a compact look on my head. Bulky helmets just make me sad and this helmet minimizes that look.

Pros
  • MIPS provides extra protection from rotational trauma.
  • Full coverage shell makes the helmet more durable to bumps.
  • Great styling and a built-in visor.
Cons
  • The ventilation is good, but it can feel a little low at times.
