This is an excellent helmet for anybody that rides bikes. It's on the pricier side for helmets, but it's for a reason - it's lightweight, very breathable, and oh so comfortable. I've done a couple of 24hr + rides with this helmet, and not once did head discomfort cross my mind.

Pros
  • Easily adjustable
  • Great ventilation...I'm less sweaty with this helmet.
  • Most comfortable helmet I've worn.
Cons
  • The interior velcro holding the foam pads has become a little loosey-goosey. I now have to adjust the strap before putting the helmet on.
  • An entire winter of riding on Maui has caused the top and rear of the helmet to fade in color.

This road bike helmet will be good for anyone who wishes to have the top of the line safety technology in their helmet. It has a large MIPS sublayer for reducing the potential of rotational trauma to the neck and brain in the even of an impact. The Koroyd technology lightweight and Smith claims it will reduce impact better than traditional foams. Overall, I was not super impressed with the ventilation of this helmet because of the way Koroyd only allows air to pass well when pointed straight ahead. For a top level helmet this is a big thing to consider.

Pros
  • Peak of helmet safety technology with MIPS and Koroyd.
  • Classic styling that does not appear bulky.
  • Vented channels that help pull air away from glasses.
Cons
  • Ventilation is weak for this helmet when the head is turned sideways.

Is it worth getting a helmet with MIPS?
Helmets come with and without MIPS and trying to decide if MIPS is worth it can be a challenge. MIPS makes helmet safety systems that are used by over 140 brands. MIPS helmets utilize a low friction layer inside of the helmet that moves 10-15mm on certain angled impacts to help reduce the rotational forces on the head. By transferring these rotational forces to your helmet instead of your brain, MIPS is better able to protect you in a crash. MIPS helmets are better because they have an extra safety system incorporated into the design of the helmet that is worth the added cost.
