Riding this board is like driving a subaru in the winter. Not super fast, but very secure on your feet and makes you feel like you're glued to the slopes in any conditions and situations. I've taken this board through all levels of runs in resorts, a little bit of park jumps, side hits, and jibs, and it's carried me... Read more
Ideal for
- Super strong edge hold, rides locked in whether it's flat or carving like crazy
- Decent pop for a very stiff and durable board
- Zero speed chatter at high speeds
Not ideal for
- Needs a longer sidecut to get up to speeds it's truly capable of, go a little bigger to get a speed demon

This board is unreal! The triple camber grips into carves even on ice allowing you to really go all in without worrying about sliding out. Light weight construction and directional twin body makes this one really pop off the side hits and rollers. The RDS dampening system lets you ride all day without getting tired out.

Ideal for
- Carving on variable terrain
- Performs great on steeps and at speed
- One of the best all-mountain boards I've ridden

One of the best
Originally posted at neversummer.com on Mar 31, 2024As far as all-mountain goes, the proto FR stands up to the best. I had some preconceived notions of what I would like about this board when I demoed it, and quite frankly, it was all that and more. I didn’t realize how well it would preform in pow. It’s a surfy carve, and while it’s stiffer, the early rise and tail transition allow it to be a bit more nimble.
I bought the new model, then found an older version, used, that I bought so I can ride it in low coverage. Now I got a Proto FR for every condition imaginable. It’s a quiver killer, so I made a quiver of proto fr’s!

It's as good as it gets...
Originally posted at neversummer.com on Mar 21, 2024I have been snowboarding for 22 years.
Started riding ND borads 5 years ago with Proto type 2. Right there I was hooked. Got the proto synthesis when it came out and saw the improvement.
Last year I got FR and man, I sold all of my boards. I was blown away by how this board rides. If you know what you are doing, this board will give you the ride of your life.
It handles ice, groom, powder, jumps, carving, and I even attack moguls with it. That is how confident I am riding this board.
I used be extremely uncomfortable on moguls but I attack them now days.
For me it's one board that can do it all .
I have to thanks NS and feel fortunate to have this technology available to me to have fun out there.

Kat was so helpful!
5 /5
Kat was so patient with all my questions and truly helped me figure out what gear would work best for me! She recommended me a good couple of boards and went into detail on each one and what the different features were and how they’d benefit me. As someone who buys for looks and pretty colors, I’m glad I had help to be confident in my purchase for my ride style and experience level!

Noah was Great!

I was unsure what ski gear to buy, but Noah settled all my worries. He was extremely knowledgeable and sent me a video explaining everything which gave the whole experience a more personal feel. I am very happy I matched with Noah because he was able to find the best skis for me and answered all my other questions!!

Super Knowledgeable and Accessible
5 /5
As someone buying skis for the first time, but having skied for a few years Leo was incredibly helpful! He took into account what I prioritized but also explained why a suggestion might be out of my initial request. For example, he got ahead of my question on why bindings are expensive and why it is important to not only focus on the skis but the bindings as well.

Frankie really dialed in the board for me
5 /5
He has extensive knowledge, and was really able to find the perfect setup for me and my riding style as well as my bank account. Also was honest and kept me from making a purchase that I might regret. We talked for at least an hour and the whole time he was very helpful. All in all he really knows his stuff when it comes to getting you into the perfect set up. I highly recommend him. Thanks again Frankie.

Tyler was awesome!

I’ve been using a board from 2005 for the last 4 or so years now. Finally decided it was time to upgrade but had no idea of what to upgrade to. He asked what I was looking for, and ended up narrowing it down to exactly what I need/want, to further my skills. He’s very knowledgeable and approachable, and overall very friendly. Was nice talking to Tyler and I’m super stoked to get up on the mountain.

Helped me find the right setup
5 /5
I have changed my boarding style, and a few years ago i bought a board that does not match my style or weight. I explained everything to Ryan and what I wanted to look to do. He listened and gave great advice and explained his DIRECT experience with some of the products, why he liked them, and why he liked them for me. I felt like he steered me in the direction he thought best for me, not just the highest commission, which ultimately made me hit the add to cart button.
